The front page of reddit has been absolutely feral over some random streamer who zapped his dog with a shock collar, so yeah. People do not like people who are cruel to dogs.

What do more than 230 scientists and 53 ocean conservation organizations have in common? They just told the Trump administration to protect our marine national monuments. Read more about our work to protect our monuments from industrial fishing: tinyurl.com/4d9xaa6e
E&E News: Groups urge NOAA to keep commercial fishing out of monuments
They also said the Trump administration has not used a transparent process for getting input from the public.

We've currently got a scandal one county up because an officer let his K9 die in a hot car when he went home to take a nap and now the entire department is doing the "we investigated ourselves and found no evidence of wrongdoing" thing.

And, whoa buddy, the very very red county is not having it.

Not by me, though. I'm just some guy, yahknow?

I think there's something interesting to be said about ideologies primarily focused on looking towards the future versus traditionalism that obsesses over the past.

I'm generalizing, but why do conservatives remember political irritations for so much longer than liberals?

It's been 17 years since Obama said some voters "cling to their guns, to their religion" and I heard a senator denounce that last month.

Obvious theory: Media ecosystem puts it on repeat

🌊 Big win for the #DeepSea
At the #IUCNCongress members voted to adopt:
✅ Motion 032 – Protecting seamounts and vulnerable marine ecosystems from destructive practices
✅ Motion 035 – Protecting mesopelagic ecosystem integrity

Thanks to those who voted science into policy 👏

obviously not self-plagiarism, but some people are just so weird.

I work in an incredibly niche field and every paper I publish builds on the ones before. There is absolutely nothing wrong with citing yourself and I never understood this critique, either.
epiellie.bsky.social
Not to pick on Per, but I’ve never understood the snark about “self citation”.

If, as an academic, you aren’t creating an inter-related body of work that builds towards some larger understanding of a problem, what even is the point?
pengzell.bsky.social
The true academic method: overthink, underdeliver, cite yourself.

I think Haldeman's Forever War is an incredibly important piece of the SciFi canon with really meaningful things to say about war and loss and alienation and holy hell would that not be something I'd ever hand to someone new to science fiction.

Man, I have blocked a lot of accounts today. Folks, it really isn't that hard to just not be terrible, spammy, or annoying.

Block Early. Block Often. Block for any reason or no reason at all.

To all the people in the comments having just the weirdest conversations with yourself without realizing that you've been muted all day, never change. You're the real heroes.
