Needless to say, Dal and Astarion have almost come to blows after he startles Dal on a bad day, and Halsin has to separate them like two fighting cats.
Dal gets him back of course.

Dal will shout or curse, and may give a shove to the one who startled him.
His reaction is a bit more playful once he trusts his companions more, rather than being mortified that he was caught off-guard.
But the cursing remains, making him a tempting target for some.

While living in Menzoberranzan, Dal was a morning person! He sold his jewelry at the Bazaar, which necessitated getting up early to set up. He's a quiet calm morning person though.

Now on the Surface, however, the morning is plagued by the arrival of the sun.

Mal, chronically sleep deprived as he is, is of the mind that cheerfulness first thing in the morning prior to coffee should be illegal.

During the 10 years he was a Patron of House Strighym, his Matron frequently used Enchantment magic on him to assure his compliance. He will say it was worth it for the status it gave him. Not that he was ever allowed to say "no" anyway.
But now he both craves intimate touch and fears it.

It's between having no purpose and having his physical autonomy stripped again.
Being raised Lolthite caused Dal to tie his worth to his usefulness. He's desperate to return to Menzo and prove that he's still useful, still worthy of living, still loyal to Lolth.

Smiles not caused by flirtation or schadenfreude are fairly elusive from Dal, at least for a good part of the BG3 timeline--so much so that it almost becomes a game between some companions to see who can make him crack a smile or even laugh in a genuine manner.

Dal was somehow convinced to try a bite of a sweet dessert. Dal hates sweets. The face he makes after it lands on his tongue is like every single part of his mouth is trying to distance itself from the morsel of food without being rude and spitting it out.

A fine young pumpkin headed imp I came across in my travels and had the delight to draw. He's an "alternative wedding planner", which I was led to believe involves replacing traditional wedding rings with plastic spider novelty rings among other things.

Important (to me) note: The generators used were person-made with the creator of the generator having manually inputted names and set pieces (prefix, body, suffix) to randomize to create different names, NOT Generative AI.

BG3 Dal's (former) last name "Strighym" came from a generator for Drow Noble House Names. There were meanings attached but I have no idea how canon they are, not that I care.
But I chose Strighym because it sounded like "strigoi", and TES Dal is a vampire :)

By looking at the Drow name tables and their meanings, I made up a meaning for Dal's BG3 name!
"Dal" means "from" in Drowic
"a" in a name means "destruction"
"mur'ss" means "shadow", and I figured "mus" could easily be a masculine variant with the same meaning.

BG3 Dal is an AU of TES Dal!
Dalamus' first iteration as my OC was as a Dunmer (Dark Elf) in TESV: Skyrim over 13 years ago. The name "Dalamus" actually came from a random Dunmer Name Generator, because he was INTENDED to be a throwaway character, buuuut lmao

I was being very silly when I named the big man. I wasn't expecting the game to consume me like it has.

I was simply trying the game out cause I'll play anything my favorite voice actor is in (he's the reason I got the game in the first place.
