Thanks for your kind words.
Happy [belated] National Fossil Day! Before CT scanning and photogrammetry, fossil were hand drawn like this series of traditional carbon dust illustrations. I miss those days. Photos of my illustrations alongside the actual fossils #NationalFossilDay, #SciArt, #PaleoArt, #paleontology, #CarbonDust
It’s #WorldAnatomyDay today. Here’s an illustration depicting the anatomy of antlers. Fall is deer breeding season which is a time when antlers harden for buck’s to use in fighting and establishing dominance. #WorldAnatomyDay, #anatomy, #SciArt, #antler #deer
One week until my carbon dust course starts. There are still some spots available. This technique combines drawing and ‘painting’ using a dry brush to apply layers of ground dust to achieve realistic 3D illustrations. #SciArt, #NaturalScienceIllustration #CarbonDust
Cassowaries Have Their Day! World Cassowary Day draws attention and awareness about these amazing large flightless birds from Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and NE Australia. Here’s the skull of a Southern Cassowary (Casuarius casuarius). #SciArt #SciComm #cassowary, #WorldCassowaryDay, #skull
Today is World Rhino Day!

Sumatran rhinos are the smallest of all rhinos. They are also one of the rarest and most endangered mammals in the world with fewer than 100 individuals left in the wild.

Happy National Dog Day!
With my upcoming vertebrate anatomy course in a few weeks, what better way to promote two things at once. Here’s the skeletal anatomy of a typical canine.

I’m excited about teaching an online carbon dust course this Fall for the Lyme Art Association's Natural Science Illustration Program. Learn this century old technique which can be used to depict many natural science subjects.

Happy World Lizard Day!

Celebrating #WorldLizardDay with an excerpt from my book, The Dissection of Vertebrates, currently being updated to a 4th edition with more reptilian content ... stay tuned.

Today is International Armadillo Day! Even these amazing mammals share similar bones with humans, their specialized forelimbs have evolved for digging.

I’m excited about teaching an online vertebrate anatomy course this Fall offered by the @yalepeabody . Students will study, compare and sketch the skeletons and superficial muscles of various vertebrates.

Happy World Lion Day!

This annual event not only celebrates the most majestic of the big cats but also aims to raise awareness of the challenges that this vulnerable species faces and to gather support for their conservation

Happy World Whale and Dolphin Day! Today celebrates and honours these marvellous marine mammals. Here are some ‘cool’ evolutionary adaptations that help a bowhead whale survive and thrive in polar environments.

Happy World Snake Day!

This day is dedicate to raising awareness of the beauty, diversity, and ecological value of these amazing and often misunderstood reptiles.

Here’s the skull of a python created for my book, The Dissection of Vertebrates.

Happy World Giraffe Day!

The giraffe’s icon long neck has evolved in tandem with its heart to create a powerful organ that generates enough pressure to pump blood to its brain.

Today is World Crocodile Day! Bringing attention and awareness about these amazing reptiles and their relatives alligators, caiman, gharials. This skull of an American Alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) was created for my book, The Dissection of Vertebrates

Today is Dinosaur Day!
This day is dedicated to celebrating dinosaurs, paleontology, and the ancient natural history of our planet

It’s World Turtle Day! Here’s the skull of a common snapping turtle (Chelydra serpentina). These prehistoric-looking freshwater turtles live in Canada and the U.S. Snapping turtles are omnivorous but they are also scavengers and active hunters

Spotted in the wild! While I was creating this Great White Shark illustration for BioRender, I wondered how it would be used in the future. It’s great to see it in a peer-reviewed publication. This interesting research quantifies growth changes in white sharks to aid in their conservation.

Happy 573rd Birthday Leonardo!

Leonardo is one of my heroes for many reasons but especially for his medical and scientific illustrations. If published during his lifetime or shortly thereafter, instead of in the late 1800s, his anatomical works would have advanced medicine by a couple of centuries.
Happy International Beaver Day.
