This needs to include the permanent end of the genocide in Gaza, an end to the occupation and apartheid in Palestine, and a negotiated settlement that means both Israelis and Palestinians can live in lasting peace and security.

We mourn with all those who have lost loved ones.

We pray today will be the beginning of a swift process that leads to an enduring peace.

The latter point (in **) is never noted in the outcries over “foreign meddling”: “Iran, Russia and China – all named in the MI5 advice – have an interest in shaping British politics, **just as the UK [and the USA] seeks to shape theirs**.”

MI5 has issued a new warning over foreign influences.

Never mind Russia, China, and Iran, the Canary says.

We have a real enemy within that hijacked a general election and tried to kill the free press: Morgan McSweeney.

I’m seeing pieces and posts today about how useful digital ID could be in navigating bureaucracy etc. Yes. It would. That, however, is *not* how the government tried to sell it to us. Instead, they portrayed it as a tool to stop illegal working and curb illegal immigration. 1/4

Quite a bodying, here, for the UK, from the Commissioner for Human Rights, Council of Europe.

🏮 He points out the Supreme Court ignored human rights (which breaches its legal obligations)
🏮 He says, in effect agreeing with Lucy Powell, Parliament should be involved...

The EU “leaders” will try to make us forget the #genocide but we will not!

Israel shouldn’t count on EU leaders forgetting the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza, even if Donald Trump’s peace deal succeeds in ending the war.

That’s the candid private view of diplomats, politicians and officials.
‘Israel needs to deliver’: Europe’s private fears over Trump’s plan for Gaza
Officials and diplomats are hoping the ceasefire lasts but don’t want to ease the pressure on Israel just yet.

US liberals used to say: it’s ok, Hispanics vote Democrat, so demographic shifts will destroy the hard right in the long term. It ended badly.

Then Europeans said: it’s ok, young people vote leftwing, so demographic shifts will destroy the hard right in the long term. It’s ending badly.

Ireland should insist that any military action outside the EU, carried out by the EU or the MSs under the European security and defence policy, requires UNSC or UNGA U4P authorisation.

We were told then we could take that to the Bank. Now we are told it’s a dud.

Get this: at the same time as breaking faith with us, they ask us to trust them as they dismantle the 1960 statutory commitment to working through the UN when it comes to sending Irish soldiers overseas with international forces.

That’s a bridge I’m not buying.

This is correct.
The government parties are trying to renege on solemn assurances given then to us so that we could approve those constitutional amendments. Now they insist the assurances are not legally binding.

Connolly: “In voting ‘no’ we had to vote a second time on Nice and on Lisbon and we were given absolute, solemn promises in relation to our neutrality that seem to mean nothing at the moment.

Because we are now going down a road of saying that the Triple Lock is not a core part of our neutrality.”

I have reservations about Prevent, but as a Christian, I support this request: “Humanists UK and its section LGBT+ Humanists will be writing to the Government’s Prevent programme to ask what it is doing in response to the growth of far-right Christian Nationalist extremism in the United Kingdom.”

Concerned about what the peace means for Palestinians? Concerned whether there will be peace at all? Concerned about accountability for the Israeli genocide? Shabana Mahmood has this to say to you.

54% is agriculture
13% buildings and roads
