Would you have gone to Bassett there?

Most charitable explanation: Turning Raleigh around mid-game vs a different mix, Naylor due up, Little a lower HR guy, and some of that pocket saw Dominguez yesterday.

That's a reach, and still doesn't account for "use a worse pitcher in a massive spot"

Little has been demonstrably worse than the other leverage options, or even Lauer (or Fluharty, though he's probably down), for some time now.

Playing for the 3rd batter in an inning -- who hits lefties well, anyway -- when the 1st and 2nd are so dangerous is a major error.
Great point. We pitched him yesterday to keep him FRESH and then don’t use him for the teeth of the lineup. Crazy. He’s your closer. You gotta go with him there and see if he can do 2 innings or go to anothwr arm for the bottom of the order.
Toronto pitched Hoffman in the 8th last night with a 6 run lead...for some reason
Pitch your best pitchers in the biggest spot

3 clear choices ahead of Little. Seranthony, Hoffman, Bassit. Why keep Hoffman on the bench as your closer against the teeth of the lineup? Bassit or Seranthony can try the bottom of the order for the 9th. Galaxy brained.
Little has been bad for months. A 5.57 ERA from July 28 onward. 16 walks and 19 hits in 21 innings.

There’s no way he should be in there for the highest leverage situation of the entire season.
So many better options. I would have even gone to Bassit as well. Man.
It’s more than that too. Raleigh smashes lefties so turning him around doesn’t even make sense. So you’re sending out a below average pitcher in a bad spot and stacking the odds against him. Just absolutely egregious.
Schneider has had multiple poor decisions pulling and setting up relief innings, and the Jays have mostly allowed him to escape unscathed. But you keep giving teams chances…
This is 100% on Schneider. Could not have managed that worse.
A pitching change when you had maybe 6-7 better options that cost you a trip to the World Series.*
I actually think it’s the opposite. Little’s already shown to be quite bad in the playoffs. Kind of a fool me twice scenario. Why would you think he could do it?
I mean some of the blame has to fall on Little for being beyond awful. What a garbage appearance.
Inexcusable. A lefty who can’t throw strikes against switch hitters who beat up lefties. it’s anti stat and anti eyeball. I don’t understand it.
Anytime you have to protect a lead late, you gotta go to a guy with a 6.00 ERA and a 2.33 WHIP. (And those stats don’t do justice to how bad he’s looked)
Honestly, Schneider does a lot right. But putting Little in a 1 run game against 2-3-4 in the 8th is inexcusable.
Mariners saved the Jays from another Schneider classic. Can’t believe Naylor tried for 3rd there.
Jays might be up 2-1 if Gausman had pulled a Scherzer in G1.
Hahaha! So frustrating. I even remember 88-34 off wing PP set up we used way back. Thought that was something to bring out every now and then for more dynamic looks, but had to cater to 16…
Sucks we didn’t use them more together while Marner was on the team. Always thought Nylander’s shooting threat opened more lanes for Matthews release.

Nylander and Matthews

88 and 34
Every year I see more evidence that more rest is good in sports, and rest helps older players much more. Scherzer gets all that time off to recover and reset. Gausman dominates down the stretch with an extra off day. Awesome to see.
A short leash on your G1 starter and Ace! Just wild, man.
On the one hand, Springer hit a homer on the first pitch. And we’re lining out sharply. On the other hand, this was maybe one of the few days to go deeper into counts to try and get in the bullpen.
Love him standing nowhere and watching the puck go behind the net instead of getting in position for the reversal.
Benoit sees the Leafs are in a 2v2 on the wall. Felt like a clear reversal, and yet Benoit just stood in front. Flat footed, reversal gets turned over, back of the net. Bleh.
Democratic strategists prove that the political class are mostly just idiots, grifters, or nepo babies. They can’t even understand how to do 2 things at once! Worse, they outright dismiss it and double down every chance!
Durbin on whether Democrats can use reining in ICE in Chicago as a precondition to rein in the government says “can’t do that. It’s gotta be health care all the way.”
Another classic Schneider Moment! Lauer our only chance of getting multiple innings and preserving a late game strategy. Crazy, man.
