Things should be 'fine' once they're allowed to settle and either his wife finds a new job or insurance payments start coming in, but until then it's still a rough spot of juggling bills+necessities.

Update 2:

He just got home from the hospital, so at least he's stable. Now comes bureaucracy and pharmacy and rehab hell.

Medicines are thankfully cheap (public healthcare!!), and specialty diet and whatnot can be budgeted. Rehab sessions are 20€/hr, or about 400€ a month plus transportation.

A detailed update:

Dad had a double stroke that looked pretty serious. His wife was fired for taking days off to take care of him. I booked it across the country to help out.

He'll be better in a month or two, but will need a lot of work and help, he has pretty severe aphasia and limb paralysis.

Really don't want to go into details right now, most likely closing commissions for the foreseeable.

Got a family medical emergency across the country so I need to travel ASAP. It's a 8 hour ride I can't take my rig with.
