Breaks my heart every time
Ah yes, Sam Neill, Vasily from THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER
I think everybody has a “Wallace Shawn from Young Sheldon” — my first one would probably be “Vincent Price, the guy who did the voice of Ratigan in The Great Mouse Detective”
Thank you! I learned how to style a wig for this
I just had to explain who Vash the Stampede is to my parents
Betrayed by grocery store sushi :(

The Border Patrol op in Evanston made many headlines on Friday (as it should have), but please note that none of this is new. Feds have been devastating the west burbs for nearly two months now. These communities do not have equivalent wealth and media infrastructure; a lot doesn't break through.
I liked the yonic cocoon and the acid baby and the zero-g blood floating everywhere
Co-sign, one of the best of the year
A heads-up: Jafar Panahi's brilliant Palme d'Or winner IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT is doing a one-week run at the @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social.

Per my review, you should see it.

Despite its title, you can’t find a more controlled film.

Finally found the John Carpenter movie that’s totally on my wavelength. It’s IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS
Another kid thought it was rad that I was “the girl Frankenstein,” so it all evens out
A kid asked me who I was. I told her “the Bride of Frankenstein,” and when she said she didn’t know what a bride was, I told her I was the monster’s girlfriend, to which she responded, “Yuck.”
Over the Garden Wall!!! The Beast!
It’s warm enough that I can sit on my front stoop waiting for trick or treaters and my next door neighbor gave me a beer, God bless and happy Halloween
A little bit, although to be fair to the festival, I did get a chance to revisit a couple of my favorites from TIFF (The Testament of Ann Lee and Wake Up Dead Man respectively). Nothing I saw was an outright bust, either!
Coverage includes GDT’s Frankenstein, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Petzold’s latest, and a pair of documentaries, as well as a link back to my interview with the director of The Testament of Ann Lee!
New Florence + the Machine album has some bangers on it and the new Mountain Goats record is out for delivery an entire week early, helloooo music-induced endorphins

Still reeling from this, still need a whole lotta help to cover next year, if you feel so inclined, consider a subscription?
Real talk (reel talk?):

BWDR recently lost a partnership that covered nearly half our operating budget, so things are suddenly very tough. If what we do has ever meant something to you, or you’ve ever thought about subscribing, now’s the time—it *truly* makes a difference.

I gotta get out to Cincinnati
Also: enjoy the hell out of FRANKENSTEIN, I adore pre-Code horror and this one really does it for me, more than any of the other OG Universal monster movies
