We're old and retired, so not anymore! ;-)

I get the benefit of the doubt from cops, and I get treated automatically with dignity and respect. Everyone should receive that treatment. It's not that I'm privileged, it's just that human rights are not doled out equally. And that should be a solvable problem.

I've occasionally described white privilege as not a get out of jail free card, but the right to buy a lottery ticket. I've also said, I don't love the term 'white privilege' not because I don't have it (I clearly do), but everyone else should have it too. It's not privilege, it is human rights. 1/2

On paper, there are no two people more different than Chuck and me. He described his life as 65 mph in the centre lane of the freeway, while I describe my career as getting paid to colour outside the lines. The world needs both. The common denominator is we share a moral compass that points north.

I know. It's not quite the garden party you might think, but we are both aware of our privilege. And I think we've both used it as best we could to leave the world better than we found it. It's not noblesse oblige, it's just doing your best. And we've both tried to do that.

This was a really common commercial when I was a kid. It was a meme. www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IA5...

One of the rules of me is that no one gets to choose who they are, but we all get to choose what we do. Base your judgments of others on that basis.

Pretty much everyone in North America is a mutt. Seems to have worked to our advantage. :)

As I always say, never be afraid to ask questions -- "How many licks does it _really_ take to get to the centre of a tootsie pop?" (this is not a veiled dirty joke, btw, it's just what popped into my head on the spot while I wait for my son to go suit shopping.) ;-)

You'll win on artistry, I'll win on scale of art. ;-)

Or as I often say, you have no choice but to play the hand you're dealt. I can see me in my next life -- "Oh dammit, dung beetle again? What'd I screw up last time?" ;-)

I love this one! At this point in my career I could probably make ink blots on tee shirts with my belly (I'm working on it!). ;-)

#vss365. "What a know-it-all shit this guy was. We were drinking rum at some bar in St. Kitts, and suddenly he starts talking about lacquer, the French wood treatment. Shit faced, he starts rambling about lacquer. 'Do you know where it comes from?'"
"Uh, no."
"It is ground up laq #beetles."

Someone once asked in an interview with David Attenborough, the renowned naturalist, "What is your opinion on religion?" He responded, "It's hard to say, but if there is a God, he clearly has an inordinate fondness for beetles." :)

That is exactly what happened to me in college. The minute I was ready to learn, there was a professor who guided me through the hoops. One of my favourite phrases is, "Nobody ever learned anything when their mouth was open."

You'll be shocked, but I was born with a bit of ego, and it had to be beaten out of me the hard way. Kristy taught me to be human, Jason taught me to put others first, and Misty taught me that if you invest fully, you just might be rewarded.
docsavage88.bsky.social
As I sometimes have the privilege of saying, "Sometimes you get lucky." I won the lottery three times (Kristy, Jason, Misty). It was like rolling three sevens in a row in a craps game.

(oh, and a major branch of my family were South Carolina rice planters. There is a lot of rice in my life. [pretty sure none of my ancestors would know a rice plant from Bermuda grass by sight, but they were rice planters nevertheless]) ;-)

I'm pretty sure America never fully recovers from this disaster. We have killed the goose that laid the golden egg.

I get potatoes. Gotta love the Irish! ;-)

True story. A good friend is Indian, and she once asked my ethnic heritage. I said, "my family came from Essex and Kent, which makes me Danish/French/English/Anglo-Saxon." She said, "oh, so you're a mutt." I said, "It's called hybrid vigour, and it comes in handy if you want to dominate the world."

Went downstairs for my regularly scheduled advil, and took the princes Lily out for a wizzer. The coyotes were singing non-stop, and so I just sat down and listened for a bit. There is still nature in this world. I hope we can keep it that way. Have a great Wednesday everyone. :)

Happy Wednesday Nubian Queen Bee and everyone! I'm of Danish/Swedish descent, so I am definitely melanin challenged, but my son is Vietnamese, and I tanned to minimize our skin colour difference. I got sooo chewed out by my dermatologist. Have a great day everyone! :)

We're on a tight schedule as we approach the wedding, but Misty will march while I hold down the fort and get ready for the imminent wedding. But we'll make a showing. 10,000 people see the pride flags in our yard every day. (they've been vandalized three times, but almost everyone loves them.) :)

Why do people always take pictures of me? Is it the cat? (I hope you had a restful, comfortable night, Herre). ;-)
