Unfortunately, I can relate to every bit of this except for the “she followed suit” part.

I was laid off from Teen Vogue this week, alongside multiple other phenomenal team members.

At our Summit, I was asked how it felt to be 1 of 2 Black women left and what that meant for representation. Now, there are no Black women at Teen Vogue and that is incredibly painful to think about.
This is so disheartening. I’ve been impressed by and appreciated the political writing at Teen Vogue for years.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.
Teen Vogue has built a stellar reputation over the last decade because of their political continent. What a loss.
Never thought I’d say this, but I miss Duo. Our new system requires facial recognition, a verified number, and facial recognition again before allowing access.
I was living in ignorant bliss of all of this a mere five seconds ago.

Yup. For a lot of people (I’m 45) this would necessitate “moving back home” with aging/elderly parents. For women, it likely means becoming a full-time care giver in exchange for a place to live.
Party idea for #parents on #budget: hit up the #thriftstores and buy a bunch of different Spidey costumes for cheap. Then throw a Spiderverse-themed party at a local park where you supply the costumes. Provide silly string as the party activity and let them go at it (commit to cleaning up after).

“They were careless people, Tom and Daisy--they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made…”

Was back to campus 6 days after hip-replacement surgery and the one thing that was unbearable was wearing a bra.

And let’s not forget Hooper’s affair with Ellen Brody in Benchly’s novel + the most anti-climatic death scene ever. One example where the movie was better than the book.

GA educator here who can verify that the deadlines they’re expecting us to meet are impossible.
My large dog is a burrower who insists on sleeping under all the covers. Last night, she emerged right after I’d broken out my sewing kit to fix a Spidey costume. Pins and needles all over the bed…she’s lucky she’s adorable.
Not what you asked for, but core memory unlocked by this story: One of the most beloved people in Muncie, IN (Ball State) for years was the local hot dog vendor who fed everyone when the bars closed at 3am. He genuinely loved his job and we loved him all the more for it.
My entire field (19CAmLit) died right after I graduated in 2016. The fact that there were no jobs to even apply for made the disappointment slightly more bearable.

Universities across the world seeing this:

"its only wrong 45% of the time!!
Lets buy free licenses for our students, staff and faculty!!
Lets lock into contracts with rapacious predatory AI companies with shitty technofascist politics, sucking up water and jacking up electricity prices!!"
