If you can honestly see Janet Mills being the 51st vote to keep the filibuster, when push comes to shove—by all means slam her to hell.

If not, I’d advise thinking about her a little less as if she were your enemy.

In DC, people on Pennsylvania Avenue as far as the eye can see. No Kings!
“I’m Tifa Lockhart, and I approve this message.”
Yes, yes, we joke, hyuk, and “hardy-har-har United KINGdom” about it.

But for real, here’s what seems to be going on:

It’s less the literal meaning and more the spirit of the enterprise that’s spreading.

Seems to be dawning on much of Europe that the tyrannical cloud darkening the United States is likely to spread to their shores if people don’t wake up to the danger.

Ironically the King himself probably agrees.

Maybe.

Then again, maybe not. Many of them are lazy and stupid. (It’s why they were attracted to Trump to begin with.)

In any case, it’s not worth anyone’s time to engage with them.

Trump does want to help his fellow dictator, Putin—he still sees guys like him as a useful role model.

But it’s also true that he’s realized: If the public sees headlines of Ukraine being conquered by Russia, it will destroy his presidency.

So he’s trying to square that circle, somehow.

The reverse needs to happen—*they* need to be pre-emptively blocked.

What they’re trying to do is gather mass data on people—mainly for blacklists for clearances, contracts, employment, applications, etc.—and to garner pretexts for going after Bluesky.

Block ‘em, if only to slow them down.

… I’ve seen some comments from people here saying that they have been blocked by the new USG Department accounts for unknown reasons. (This is likely unconstitutional, depending on circumstances.) If this has happened to you, could you explain what happened? Share a screen shot? Thanks!

By my count: Of the 15 Departments of the US Government, 13 launched new BlueSky accounts tonight (all but Justice and HUD), and all 13 have posted explicitly partisan political posts blaming Democrats and/or Chuck Schumer for the government shutdown.

Obsessing about candidate age after 2024 is a bit like focusing on candidates' IT security practices after 2016. Not only are you fighting the last war, you've gotten the battlefield it was fought on completely wrong.
If there are any institutional holdouts after today, I think it’ll be likely because they imagine the public thinking something like this:

“Yeah we don’t like Trump, and yeah we’d like an alternative, but…no not that…or that…I’m kinda leery on THAT…ehh, I don’t knoooow (etc)”

That’s our next task.

Blocking is more effective than angry quotes over an account. I hope people have learned from Twitter.

All I’m saying is—One can forgive them for being late to the game here.

Even (say) Sarah Longwell, were she in charge of Dems’ rebuilding, would likely be stymied by the chasm between what voters said they wanted and what needs to happen to actually stop Trump.

I, of course, do not take swing voters’ stated concerns literally—or voter attitudes too literally. Often, when they say they’re concerned about something, they are, in fact, “really“ trying to say something else.

But I don’t run Dems’ political shop, and they’re not built for that approach anyway.
