Many Americans live all around the world, who still care, still keep informed, and are active in the fight for democracy!

George Orwell warned us about far-right disinfo including extreme contradictions in terms: war is peace, freedom is slavery,+ignorance is strength. Now the right introduces a new Orwellian term: Liberty in Order, to convince people that only an authoritarian state can give liberty. Accumulating BS.

If there is one thing that Trump has achieved credibility about is that he is a credible bully. It has proven useful in the establishment of the latest ceasefire in Gaza. I hope he can use this same credibility to start backing Ukraine in a forceful way: send needed weapons+don't restrict their use.

Rachel Maddow has another gift for activists and history lovers the world over in her upcoming documentary about Andrew Young, who began his work helping Martin Luther King and went on to a long, courageous political career. She tells us he has insights for our present fight against fascism. Thanks!

Europe's support of Ukraine hasn't wavered. This is what allies are supposed to be like!

Some people have imaginary friends, but Trump conjures up imaginary enemies for his MAGA followers to hate. He's got to keep everybody angry at each other. Sad that the European far-right is picking up the strategy.

A no-shop day or mass boycott is not a strike. A strike means you stop work. A no shopping day is possible in the US.

I agree with you, Elizabeth. The kinds of protests that are appropriate vary with the context. In the US, for example, protesters are careful to neither promote nor incite violence, knowing that Trump is just waiting for an excuse to invoke the Insurrection Act. We reserve the moral basement for Rs.

And in France, even when the right wins an election, they don't gut health care and social security. Both sides support these things. In the US, Republicans winning means all social benefits are a risk. And this time, they're already mostly gone.

Absolutely right! These so-called intelligent tech types, convinced of their own superiority, want to create their little domains where they have absolute power over everyone else, like the leaders of a sect or cult. They do not understand concepts like the social contract or the public good! Crap!

Trump's entire presidency is an act of revenge and destruction, corruption, grift, and violations of the Hatch Act.

Playing fair means playing by the same rules. If the Repubs change the rules, then we need to follow suit. It would be preferable to have a fair playing field, with honest districting everywhere, but the Repubs decided to leave that in the dustheap of history. It's a shame, but there it is.

So Bondi thinks she decides what the law is and also who is guilty. She thinks she can jump directly to imprisoning people. Maybe someone should explain to her what democracy is.

There is effectively a lot of stuff that could be done besides curtailing renewable energy:
-charge up batteries in grid, homes, businesses, and cars
-make green hydrogen
-sell "excess" power cheap to industries with flexible timing
-develop a market to sell this
-encourage consumers to time usage

Has been obvious to me since childhood that religion can be twisted to serve diabolical political ends. The problem now is that there are people who exclusively listen to disinfo. When I hear people say "People think...[insert ridiculous idea here]" I read it as "Right-wing media spouting [idiocy]."

It's a pity that the likes of Laura Loomer can get such a serious public servant fired.
It is worth reading the article linked to this:
"China's capacity to hack the US is growing, former NSA head said. Here's what they're targeting and why."

This man spoke with wonderful clarity! I hope that the thought formed in the minds of some part of these ICE agents: What the hell are we doing here?
I guess is depends on how much Fox cool-aid they've swallowed.

The many and several laws that comprise the European Energy Transition are a source of inspiration. The American Chamber of Commerce lobby is, however, trying to pressure the EU to exempt American companies from its environmental and labor standards. We need to support the high standards of the EU!

It's outrageous that they call Democrats the "Radical Left," when there is nothing radical about normal Democratic policies. It's outrageous that they plaster gov't websites with their targeted hatred to divide our country further or even attack Democrats. They don't mind violating the Hatch Act!

Several years ago China enacted complete subsidies for solar panel production, which, when coupled with the German consumer "subsidies" (Feed-in-Tariffs) completely decimated the nascent solar panel industry in Europe. Now, China doesn't have to do anything to wipe out the US solar sector.
