For sure. I have a SPARCstation Voyager I replaced the RTC on a few years ago, but nervous about my old work Ultra 60 that’s been unloved for too long.
Batteries can be nasty and often no coming back! I love when folks in the community reverse engineers PCBs for replacements though!
Thanks 😀 just don’t look too closely for the overspray or paint scuffs where I assembled too soon.
Pic from work in progress - even the PCB cleaned up okay with some scrubbing followed by fresh flux and solder. And more scrubbing.
There was one key that was too far gone (switch on the left), the others cleaned up ok.
Yes please. 🙋‍♂️
Wait. I shouldn't be using beer to clean these? That explains why everything gets so sticky.
Oh - that's the black do-dad with the green card edge connector?
a solution of misery. Some of it ended up in the tarnex bath. Over the next day or so it crystalized out. Not super helpful.
Definitely corrosive, but there's a lot worse. This is a picture from the eBay listing, so not overly conductive.

I'm guessing that there might be more information in Dutch. Could this person at the Home Computer Museum help?

Once the switches were soaked, I had to test them. Testing switches is a pain in the butt. So I made this. Attach a multimeter, slide in a switch and press. If it beeps, the switch is good. The copper strips are 6mm tape and worked great.
I couldn’t move them easily, and was worried that I’d cause damage. So I had to design this tool to remove and reinstall.
Small snag. There are two fittings in the steel frame that secure the steel hardware for the space bar.
The plan: desolder all the switches. Harder because each switch has one leg bent to keep it in place; soak the switches in IPA for a few days with frequent jiggling; wash and scuff sand the steel frame to get rid of the goop, dirt, and corrosion, then re-spray with rust inhibitor and top coat.
These are first generation SMKs. The story will continue :)
I was hoping to put this away until I had time to work on it. Stupid brown goo. Maybe better to keep on going once it’s stabilized, in which case I should be following along with your project @jeriellsworth.bsky.social
