Garden Court's Stephanie Harrison KC on Channel 4 News: "We focus a lot on blaming asylum seekers for cost of asylum accommodation, but we need to look at arrangements the Home Office has made with private contractors that are simply not value for money."

The judge found that there is a public interest in testing the legality of the eVisa policy.
The claimants say the provision of alternative proof of lawful immigration status, esp. when there are documented issues with the eVisa system, is crucial and necessary.

Asde from dubious UK govt econmics, there are more considerations to "costs" than pure financial terms.
As Care4Calais says “Opening more camps will only serve to re-traumatise more people who have already survived horrors such as war and torture”.
On migration, Downing Street has defended the prospect of paying more to house asylum seekers in disused barracks instead of hotels, arguing that quelling public disquiet was worth any extra cost 📣

This government signed a £140 million contract to reopen the Campsfield detention centre, notorious for its appalling conditions before its closure in 2019.

Plans to expand detention by 45% will only harm more people and put them at severe risk.

Less than 24hrs after a damning Home Affairs report condemned military sites for asylum housing, Labour announces two more.

Wethersfield must close. Napier must close. Cameron and Crowborough must not open.

People seeking safety belong in communities, not camps.
Accommodation for people seeking safety in the UK is often not fit for purpose.
This failing system was created by flawed policies/processes & a growing backlog of asylum cases. Meanwhile private companies running hotels + large sites are making £ms. stories.freedomfromtorture.org/changing-the...

This right should never have been denied.

It's a relief that some Palestinian students will be able to bring their children with them to safety, but allowing this on a "case-by-case" basis is not enough.

Families belong together & it’s time the government made that a reality.
Dependants of Gaza students can come to UK, government says
The decision is a reversal of the original policy which only supported the evacuation of the students themselves.

I know it's controversial, but I really don't agree with deportations. I personally think we should actually get people to serve their time and invest the vast amounts deportations cost into the prison system to reduce recidivism rates overall, rather than just saying they're someone else's problem.

So warehousing people seeking safety in conditions shown to cause more people to take their own lives, more mental and physical health issues etc, at greater cost, is better than confronting racist and xenophobic misinformation? Gotcha! Thanks for clarifying.

Military sites are unfit to house people fleeing war & persecution.

Falsely sold as 'cost-cutting', these plans come at huge financial & human cost.

BBC must do better. This is stoking division in N. Ireland.

200 arrests for illegal working in 11 months. That's around 4 per week. This is despite post codes in N. Ireland being some of the most heavily immigration enforced in the entire UK. This is a headline to incite fear & intolerance.
