I don't think it is possible for me to use an intersection governed by a stop sign without having a driver run a stop sign or cut me off when it is my turn to go.
Makes sense I see groups of early teens going ~30mph and there is never more than one surron in the group. Almost all class 3 "bikes" in the pack, I call these electic mopeds with unused bicycle cranks-single speed, moped saddle a riding position worse than a beach cruiser not designed for pedalling
These are the kids who were screaming "f*g" and the n-word at me from the passenger seat of their parents SUV last year and in a few years will get their own SUV or truck and continue harassing bicycle riders esp bicycle commuters who look a certain way.
They stick their legs out an do an exaggerated mocking pedalling motion after they pass me, the same things that many motorcycle riders have done. They typically wear a skateboard helmet unbuckled .
I've found that "ebike" riders engage in the same harassment I get from drivers and riders of motorcycles: Punishment passes, the exact same insults screamed at me as they pass by, I've had "ebike" riders attempt to play chicken or come straight at me doing a wheelie.
Most ride with the same complete absence of a sense of preservation they had before, usually on the wrong side of the road, often setting themselves up for the most common collisions and riding without any regard for or awareness of other riders or peds. but now at 25-30 mph instead of 7-12mph.
I'm not bothered by the speed so much as the behavior of the people riding them. It seems like the people who have purchased class3 bikes (I never see 1 or 2 anymore) had never really graduated beyond riding beach cruisers on the sidewalk and now have mopeds at up to 3x the speed of their cruisers
There are a lot of knock offs of the radpower bikes in my area that travel at speeds well above 20mph without pedalling. I've seen "ebikes" with bicycle cranks travelling in the mid to high 30s without pedalling.
I'm convinved that there is widespread hacking of ebike controls and of course there seem to be a lot of fly by night companies selling what I call "Emopeds with unused bicycle cranks" I see "ebikes" routinely travelling faster than the law would sugget they would be able go throttle only.
In downtown long beach the protected lanes on 3rd&Broadway have some intersections with signal separations. Most intersections don't have thisbut some feature an intersection deign that forces drivers to make a slower, tight radius right hand turn. I wish there was more of that.
Now that I've re-read that sentence I see that's what he was referring to. When I first read it I imagined neo-nazis forcing young recruits to get tattoos. Anyhow Platner's excuse it BS. The totenkopf tattoo is what you get exactly because you know what it means and the general public doesn't.
I'm in a pocket bike lane to the left of a right turn lane and a driver wants to make a right hand turn from the bike lane instead of the actual turn lane to their right. No matter where I am it seems drivers and I have very different ideas about where I should be.
I stay in the bike lane at an intersection and I get honked and yelled at. I position myself to the left of the bike lane to allow drivers to make a CA legal RTOR and they yell at me for "being in the middle of the road even though I am making it easier for them to turn on red.
Could you tell us about your encounters with people forcibly tattooed by nazis? I live next to Huntington Beach and don't recall ever seeing a publicly displayed swastika tattoo. It is always something like Sonnenerad, the totenkopf, nazi runes etc, the wink wink "I'm not a nazi" symbol.
Before he was even a candidate vance went on podcasts and talked enthusiastically about Curtis Yarvin and no one seemed to care. Imagine if a guy who went on to be a major party's VP candidate had spent the late 1920s telling people to read Mein Kampf.
I have yet to see a single example of any daylighting in southern california since the law was passed. A few years ago I had to threaten to bring an ADA lawsuit just to get the city to install the required ramps after they had rebuilt the intersections and adjacent sidewalk on my street.
How did this develop as a universal gesture of "oopsie" after almost killing someone with car? Are they thanking us for what might seem like yielding from their perspective? Does waving mean "sorry" in any other context? It feels like waving is a ritual act of self-acquittal from attempted assault
Have you noticed that seemingly the entirety of Long Beach blvd where the A line runs at grade is lined with palm trees? A result of whatever anti-urban "urban renewal" project that accompanited the 1st light rail line? Not a single shade tree.
Is China a source for cooking oil used by mainstream US brands? I have no idea but if not this ban would primarily affect those who buy cooking oils at Asian markets, say Szechuan peanut oil
Commercial vehicles imported from outside NAFTA are so rare that I'd falsely assumed that all commercial vehicles were subject to the 25% tariff people know as the chicken tax.
The Japanese company UD (larger cab over trucks) left the US market years ago and aside from that I can't think of any trucks imported into the US market, aside from American trucks made in Mexico. This tariff is a tax on American trucks built in Mexico.
