We are a charitable organisation run by volunteers, dedicated to raising cult awareness in Aotearoa New Zealand. In October 2024, we held the first cult conference in Australasia - with more education and events to come!

...People who think they “could never join a cult’ without actual education are more at risk. We are all at risk."

We couldn’t agree more. And momentum is building. It’s time we channel that energy into real legislative change on coercive control here in Aotearoa New Zealand too.

We love one of the questionnaire responses:

“There is not enough education everywhere about cults, people still assume people are stupid for “joining a cult”, no one joins a cult, you’re recruited or join a community that turns out [to be] something more....
US expert and our 2024 keynote speaker, Dr Janja Lalich, will also be sharing her testimony on October 21.
The public hearings are officially underway! Kicking things off with a bang, survivor advocates, including Laura McConnell and Clare Heath-McIvor, were part of these hearings on Monday. It’s really incredible, inspiring stuff.
The Victorian Inquiry into Cultic Groups is making waves and we’re so proud of our friends over in Australia.

It’s powerful, it’s real, and it’s all of you. We laughed, cried, questioned, created, discussed and captured it all.

Thank you to filmmaker Caleb MacDonald for his labour of love and to everyone who contributed as a supporter, presenter or participant. Our hearts are full.

Decult Voices: Beyond Belief is more than a documentary – it’s a powerful call to action to break the silence, confront harm and stand alongside those who’ve left high-control groups.
It brought together survivors, advocates and leading experts to share knowledge, lived experiences and effective strategies for raising awareness about coercive control and holding those in power accountable.
This documentary captures the highlights of the sold-out 2024 Decult Conference – a first of its kind event in Aotearoa New Zealand.
🎬 Three more days, and we’re ready to roll! 🎥

Decult Voices: Beyond Belief will be released online with new updates and edits on Monday.

Cults and coercive groups often mask harm in wellness language. They demand obedience, silence doubts, and control autonomy.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, let’s move in ways that heal, not harm. Let’s be active AND keep each other safe.
Movement is medicine. It boosts mood, eases anxiety, and brings us closer to others.

But remember: not every ‘community’ that moves together is healthy.
This year’s theme is ‘Top Up Together’ and every day this week has a different theme. Wednesday’s theme is about being active/Me Kori Tonu.
It’s Mental Health Awareness Week this week in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Cults have an impact on mental health. The majority of those who left them carry lasting trauma, often ending in addiction, suicide, loss of income and broken relationships.
🧡 This collaborative project was 100% crowdfunded by our supporters. Thank you for believing in our small hui with a big impact.

📌 If you missed the live screenings in Christchurch and Wellington, get ready for the online release next week.
