I see your point of view for sure. But I don't agree he's enamoured with Trump. I think in his career as a banker, he's learned how to play to egos and he's using that playbook. I'm sure he doesn't respect Trump. To him it's just business. But it would serve him well to govern more compassionately.

Dealmaking on America’s time: Trump was caught promising the Indonesian president he’d “have Eric call.” Eric runs the Trump Organization, now developing a luxury resort in Indonesia. He's using public office for private gain while America struggles.

The Ambler Road cuts through untouched wilderness that Alaska's Native people depend on for salmon and caribou. This is their ancestral lands. They lived there long before any mining claim. Their consent isn’t a formality, it’s the frontline. #IndigenousRights #Alaska

I see your point. But China is the largest goods supplier to the U.S. (they import $400 billion/year). Also, the U.S. can’t easily replace Chinese manufacturing capacity which US companies need. Plus they can restrict access to its 1.4 billion-person market, devastating to many US industries.

It's an idea. I agree this would be serious pressure. But it's still Canadians that pay the export tariff. One might say, "Then, we'll just raise the price on these goods" but some of this stuff is bought on contract with fixed prices. There would be legal repercussions for breaking these contracts.
dearneighborshow.bsky.social
What I'm saying is I think Trudeau put them in and Carney reviewed it and seemed to disagree with that move so he took off a lot of these tariffs.

lol! Put it a Lafleur instead! Le meilleur, chez Lafleur!
dearneighborshow.bsky.social
That's a good point. But we don't have the buying/purchasing power that China has.
dearneighborshow.bsky.social
Wasn't it Trudeau who put in the counter-tariffs?
dearneighborshow.bsky.social
That's amazing about the Tim Hortons!
dearneighborshow.bsky.social
HOT TAKE: Counter-tariffs make no sense. They don’t punish Trump, they punish Canadian businesses and costs just get passed on to consumers. It’s economic self-harm. It does nothing to convince Trump to remove his tariffs. Plus, he thrives on escalation. What do you think? #TradeWar #Canada #US

Dr. Jane Goodall filmed an interview with Netflix in March 2025 that she understood would only be released after her death.

Yes, I think so too. He would have handled it diplomatically, with something like: ‘This belongs to your nation and it would be an honour to see it remain there for generations.’

Trump treats national treasures like his personal souvenirs: He tried to give Eisenhower’s sword to King Charles but an archivist refused. He lost his job, but saved a piece of history. Every act of resistance matters. #Unsungheros

One has to wonder: is there anyone on earth more insatiably greedy?

That's a great quote of hers. Thanks for sharing.
