MAKING a game is not the same as PLAYING a game.

MAKING a movie is not the same as WATCHING a movie.

These people don’t understand the joy of craft. They just want more content to distract them from the discomfort of living a mediocre life.
(The only kind of wealth that ever ‘trickles down’ voluntarily)
I want to shake these people by the lapels. They are so boring, unimaginative and destructive.

We have no choice but to keep inviting them to the party because they own the commercial infrastructure. Its like putting a tumor in charge.
The original colours are beautiful, you can squint and the faction colours still pop - you know exactly which team you are watching.

Reminds me of the same strength in Kurosawa's RAN:
I can’t bring myself to care about Trump digging up / tearing down parts of the Whitehouse.

Whatever tacky monstrosities he brings about should serve as useful reminders to the US:

“Elect a clown, expect a circus”
A vulgar display of power:
AWS outage freaks out $2,700 smart beds

awesome news for fans of a really bleak time!

the 1995 computer game based on Harlan Ellison's grim dystopian story about an insane AI god torturing the last few humans - I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream - has been remastered, updated & is now available on PC, Mac, Linux from Steam/GOG

Just looking into PanGUI - definitely going on my watchlist, thanks for the rec 👍
"Don't worry, the REAL milkshake won't have human shit in it, I'm just using it for texture in the prototyping phase"
It's been 1yr since this pledge.
Let's see how forgetful they think we are.
Parking a couple of FOSS alternatives here for the passers-by:

It pains me to say it... but here are some alternatives to Affinity Designer:

We forget that discomfort is a key part of growth. Without unique control schemes and devices, we are essentially saying that we are "done with Kinaesthetics", which is disastrous for games as an artform.

We can do so much more than passive spatial cinema, but only the minority will appreciate it.
I can see why standardisation happens: consistency lowers cost and increases reliability, which is partly why every car has the same BORING shape these days.

It makes good business sense, but games are more than just a functional product, they allow us to "physically interact with ideas'
I think this video cracked my brain open and made me realise how generic my toolset was, and how joyful and empowering it is to make custom tools

It currently is, but I'm going to spin up multiple windows. I have a nice Pico8 setup where I can use the game and editor side by side, and they read / write to a local config.

I'm looking forward to getting imGUI hooked up, and I'm also hoping to get Rive working for my in-game UI
- also I find it completely insane and a bit depressing that we just don't have light gun games anymore 🤷‍♂️

Since the iPhone took off, everything has been under glass (capacitive touch) or ethereal (gestural).

I miss HEFT, force feedback, and specialised controllers.
This has been bugging me for a while - how quickly controllers have been standardised for videogames, as though the problem is solved.

I miss the arcades - paying to briefly be in control of a unique machine. Nothing has weight or specialisation anymore. I miss the Steel Battalion mindset.
- prioritising the editor features I want, like audio sync, timeline scrubbing and shader hot reloads.

I already feel so much more ownership of the project
Really great so far, I did some proof-of-concept work in Pico8, and was able to rebuild it in Love with minimal hassle - and then having proper access to shaders and the file system is a godsend. Building my own editor as I go 🤌🤌
eyyy - I searched for Love2D on here because I'm using it for a fun game prototype, I didn't know you were using it for your project!

How's it all going? (DMs open)
Are we consuming content in stacks now?

k, I guess 😬
They paved paradise (with human skulls)
I got so annoyed with LinkedIn that I made this earlier.

Also - list the god damn salary!
LinkedIn is the coalface of the Jib Jab Economy.
