Faithful to the original novel, benefiting from modern effects, a solid performance by Dujardin and Kounen’s efficient direction, this version is likely to overtake the 1957 one as the definite adaptation of the work.

But the film portrays Godard’s ideas with great honesty and recreates a key moment of film history to perfection.

Excellent concept with an execution that sometimes flags along the way but finishes strong on a shocking ending.
A great cast and a strong subject matter make it the best Palme d’Or of this decade.

The film hits a strange middle ground of too wild to be meaningful and too dark to be relatable.
But the switch to a British couple subtly elevates the comedy; as do the acting chops and chemistry of Colman and Cumberbatch.
