In the @sidmeier.bsky.social biography. There's a great line that I feel highlights why gen AI stuff will never be good at making anything of value.

"coding is the easy part; it's like drawing a picture of something after you've excavated it. The sweat is in the digging, not the documentation."
A passage from a book that reads: "Virtually none of the data would have been useful on whatever computer replaced it, but it wasn't a big loss, because I build most major revisions from scratch, anyway. The coding is the easy part; it's like drawing a picture of something after you've excavated it. The sweat is in the digging, not the documentation."

Two teen girls hiking through a forest. In front of them are bushes and shrubs. behind them is a clearing surrounded by large redwoods and a run down shack. There's a shadowy cyclops looking at them from behind the shack, The girls are unaware of the shadowy presence watching them, and look excited and happy to be starting their hike. A bored middle school girl sits on her bed while Death pontificates about something behind her. She's not listening, she's dreaming of being anywhere else. She has on a dark red tee and jeans. Her bed spread is dark purple with gray gridded stripes, and her walls are covered in goth-y posters. Death's scythe rests against the wall and he's in a hoodie. They're comfortable. You can't expect them to spend eternity in musty old robes. A starter pack illustration featuring a harried woman with pale skin and long curly hair bursting out of her plastic bubble shouting "OMG! Who puts people in plastic?!" Around her are other bubbles featuring a star trek com badge, her at a jeopardy desk (for unnecessary knowledge), a hockey puck, a tea pot and percolator for caffeine, a watering can for gardening, a very surprised Oak Titmouse for birds, a sleeping gray tabby and a mischievous looking black/brown tabby with white paws and chest for cats, and a bubble that says "AND MORE!" The text at the bottom says "Warning: contains small parts. Do not feed after midnight." A five panel comic showing an anthropometric onion, dressed in blue robes and blue wizard hat out for a walk when he hears a crack in the bushes and startles to a stop. He looks around, worried. He is being watched by a hooded figure in the bushes. They jump out, surprising him. It's a girl with long, curly red hair, a red dress, and a red cloak. She screams his name "GILLY!" and then grabs him and shakes him while shouting "Can you help me?"
She's fine, she's just melodramatic.

So, I understand my role in humanity. Everybody looks to me as the arbiter of all that is good in music, and certainly not solely because scotch is delicious tonight.

I will declare what is good in music in this thread. All that @skatunenetwork.bsky.social creates is amazing. Check their originals.

Meta had allowed users to create publicly available chatbots of child celebrities, including Walker Scobell, a 16-year-old film star. Asked for a picture of the teen actor at the beach, the bot produced a lifelike shirtless image.

“Pretty cute, huh?” the avatar wrote beneath the picture.

It's a cool morning in NYC and it seems the finance guys got a new batch of grey Patagonia vests.

I wonder how they feel about it, compared to the previous batch of blue.

And what's worse, is their profile page shows the old email as an "alternate email that you can use to sign in with", which is a lie.

Emails sent to that old email are bounced.

This is pure malpractice.

Burning peoples online identities because they don't want to support their old auth systems.

This means, my friend has lost access to a ton of systems that don't provide a way to change email without access to the old one.

We contact MS support and their response was essentially "lol too bad"

There was no warning that this was a destructive action.

My friend has a @live.com email they use for a lot of things.

They're trying to migrate to an email they own with more control.

Luckily MS lets you add an alias to a @live.com email, so you can log in with something else.

If you do that, MS instantly kills the existing @live.com email.

I mean this more as in he says a bunch of stuff, that's directly contradicted by his boss. He's not in the loop, he's just there to... be a different face. He's trying to toe the line, but not involved in what's actually going on.
