⭐️⭐️”The study of gender represents the kind of free inquiry that allows people to decide for themselves how to live, free of coercion or government control.” The authors of this article point to several recent examples of attacks on teaching about gender in Texas higher ed. ⬇️
I’m half way through and your book is beautifully written! I had just read Bearing the Cross, and I really appreciate the more detailed and complex view of MLK and Coretta.

I hope to make this event for a bit despite conflicts.

There's been endless talk about an AI bubble, but less about exactly how, why, and how much it's a bubble. So I turned to the framework put forward by scholars Brent Goldfarb and David A. Kirsch, authors of "Bubbles and Crashes," for assessing tech bubbles.

Spoiler: On a scale of 1 to 8, AI is an 8
AI Is the Bubble to Burst Them All
I talked to the scholars who literally wrote the book on tech bubbles—and applied their test.

This person is one hundred percent correct and it’s scary af. We will never “media literacy” our way out of this as a society. We are about to reap the whirlwind when it comes to misinformation, disinformation, and informational warfare.

"The impression that the internet is 'down' opens up moments for rhetorical action: to reconsider our dependency on platforms that require environmental injury, to create learning experiences beyond the centralization of our digital landscape," writes @trentwintermeier.bsky.social.

Turnitin was maybe the first edtech company to turn mistrust into a service for universities. Now Mistrust as as a Service is pretty much the USP of the big AI industry in education.
Interesting to see marketing for these tools to so overtly sow mistrust between students and teachers, to suggest that the reason one should use AI is because one's teacher doesn't actually care, to be leaning into this transactional and quite sad way of seeing education. Also saw lots of this. /2

This week you might see conspiracy theorists touting a new documentary that alleges a vast censorship regime is “deciding what Americans are allowed to see, say, and even think.”

They may have paid their on camera experts. 👀

If you make "controversial statements" outside of classroom, that the President of the university dislikes, you can be summarily fired even if you are tenured.

I wish I could properly convey how boring Portland is right now. Like, there’s nothing going on.
Trump: "Portland, I mean -- every time I look at that place it's burning down. There are fires all over the place. When a store -- there are very few of them left -- but when a store owner rebuilds a store they build it out of plywood. They don't put up storefronts anymore. They just put wood up."

“The document also includes principles w/ which we disagree, including those that would restrict freedom of expression & our independence as an institution. And [it] is inconsistent w/ our core belief that scientific funding shld be based on scientific merit alone.”

Who was president in 2020?

Senate Rs spent hours Wed insisting a Biden Censorship Regime was in power.

It’s ridiculous on its face—but dangerous in its purpose.

If you can convince people of that lie, you can justify what Trump is doing now. It’s “just payback”.
