i don't get the desire to want to be "The Leader" of a household in the first place. it's not a corporation. 🙄 what's so wrong about sharing some roles, letting everybody doing what THEY'RE best at & know needs to be done, helping each other out, taking turns, seeking out actual experts when needed.

Old enough to remember when kids being anti-semitic was the basis for a federal government assault on higher education

I simply cannot stand social media anymore. The sheer level of flat-out wrongness, inaccuracy and cognitive biases on parade is going to drive me *literally* insane. Not to mention the BLATANT propaganda and psyops.

What a goddamn garbage dump the internet has turned out to be.

The whole time you're using it you're saying to yourself, "Is this working?"

I'll say it again:

We need to be establishing independent comms channels that are hosted on servers in other countries. Like, NOW.

This 'cease fire' is just so they can get in front of all the messaging/acquire legacy and social media, and clamp down on the ability of the people to share information so that next time, there will be no global pushback.

Hey look, Israel broke the cease-fire, twice, in two different ways, within 24 hours - again.
mondoweiss.net
NEW: Israel informed the UN it will permit only 300 aid trucks into Gaza daily, not the 600 mandated by the ceasefire it just signed.

also!!! people keep skipping the most glaring thing to me?

that black people who go to the doctor are not taken seriously, are misdiagnosed, dismissed, ignored, gaslit

AND there are things that don't show up on the normal tests. it's not pushed for black people to have access to more tests
danielaquirke.bsky.social
Yes, this. Going for regular checkups/blood work is about detecting things that go wrong as early as possible so you have a better chance with intervention. You may not be able to avoid getting sick, but how quickly you identify a condition and start treatment impacts your likelihood of survival.

Right. Going to the doctor does not keep you from having cancer. And some cancers just really don’t have symptoms until it’s too late.
danielaquirke.bsky.social
This happened last December. He would have died within a couple years if he hadn't had open-heart surgery.

What we've taken away from this is that we have to aggressively advocate for ourselves in the healthcare system, and while doctors are an essential part of the equation, they can be wrong.
danielaquirke.bsky.social
My husband had a quadruple bypass at 51 - and it was only because he pursued it and *convinced* his doctor he needed expensive testing. He had 80-90% blockage in all four arteries, and no one thought there was anything wrong with him til he did the coronary angiography, which, again, HE insisted on.

I’m late 40’s & in, what I thought was, relatively good health. Nothing in my chart was alarming.
I was fatigued & wrote it off as “you’re getting older”. One day I had blood in my urine. In 2wks I was on a table opened & getting a kidney removed
Not once did I think I was walking around with cancer

That's exactly why I said the conversation has to be broader ... it ain't always folks not going to the doctor or not being on top of their health.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

I really need to work on eating earlier. My habits are bad in this regard. I tend to eat around 8PM which is entirely too late for someone who goes to bed between 10-11.

What's your totally ordinary opinion about books that you nonetheless find compelled to share when asked on a social media site such as this one for your most extreme/unhinged/hottest takes?

I'll go first: manga is popular among young people because manga often features young people.
