THE ARTISTRY OF NATURAL SELECTION
it begins in a borderline state. indiscernible extraction
of shared element. jumble of non-organic
subversion. less, imitation, more
becoming. less evolution, more reverse. it begins
with the evocation of wings
in flightless, molding creatures:
quasi post-presence. hybrid manifest.
it begins when you leave
thermal footprints in the sand. dissection electric.
it begins when you cut women up & then sew them
together: a design that happens,
scissors in hand. understand
anatomy &, with confidence,
splice the gene.
a surgical violence. in the cosmic
question of species conception: it begins
as it always begins: with an open, stylized wound
to the abdomen. it could be
a beginning: you could grow human
hair in your viscid lining. instead, you peel
your surface to reveal it’s flayed. to reveal your probing
interior, trapped inside with living worms.

Huge thank yous to those who've purchased physical & digital copies of ANGELS & INSECTS this year. It's turned 2 this month & has admittedly been limping along in terms of sales, so the resurgence of interest this year has really put wind back in my sails.

Also, Kith is wonderful.

KILL THE FLY/SAVE THE CHILD

fly in theater is the space over the stage: the sensation of being debrided, of settling on the eyes or the skin to seek fluid from wounds. without the fly, who will tell the dead tissue it's dead? who will fish? who will bait? to be a model organism requires some capability of spreading disease; some willingness to harm the cattle or the economy or both. i'm done growing. I've shed my wings & become secondary. i can detect taste & smell & respond to touch. this is theater: how i flock to light in darkness even when it shocks me. how i occupy space on the stage. how i taught myself to levitate. in many flies, the larva stage is long & adults live short lives. i am increasingly inclined to rest my gelatin head, we've only just begun.

Hell-bent and determined, atlas st. cloud comes to the page unbothered by doctrine and defiant of form

cover:
a marble white forearm reaches up from the bottom of a gloss black cover and hooks its fingers into a gash. the opened wound reveals blue and pink fiber weeping in gold.

HE/HIM

when i say i'm a man i mean my shoulders are broad yet
i cannot
carry the weight.
when i say i'm a man i mean
but like, not really
when i say i'm a man i mean if I had to choose

shatter my nebula
let the stars grind against one another
hope they form new constellations
the milky way we never meant to be all that there is
so i'm begging for an exploration of the sky
