"We Are Not All Right" features 10 sci-fi stories by yours truly. www.amazon.com/dp/B0DMTPGL5D It has climate crises, the eternal fight against dictatorship & an anti-war stance

Apparently, the publisher has paused. Not sure of the details. Hopefully, they start back up or stacey finds someone else as a publisher.

Given infinite time & money, I think I would've ended the episode with those new aliens walking in on the violent final confrontation with the Lazarus guy/dead Mars rebel & saying something like, "OH, WE KNEW YOU WEREN'T CIVILIZED! THE DEAL'S OFF!" & walking out. That's a more we-can't-win B5 ending

Also, the script has Ivanova & Sheridan talking about new aliens & never showing them, which is an odd decision. I get why (budget, time, it's background setting stuff & not actually the story) but I think it's one of those little things that adds to the sense that this ep falls short overall.

If anyone on the command staff would fall into the trope of being a conspiracy junkie, it would be Garibaldi, IMO. But they have Sheridan explaining it to Garibaldi here. You can tell this isn't a JMS script.

This was not an episode I enjoyed. Bruce copes well with his lines, but he's given a bunch of improbable stuff to say ("I collect secrets" to lampshade the improbability of a captain knowing anything about secret, banned Earth tech). As a spaceship captain, he'd be out of touch with events on Earth.

Nice review of the Ripples in Space sci-fi anthology (published by Samak Press) & my story in it, "Fear the Human," from an Indie book website: reedsy.com/discovery/bo... Nice to see readers enjoying it! #SciFi #ScienceFiction
Ripples in Space by John Coon - Reviewed by Eric Smith
Review: A gripping sci-fi anthology that explores what it means to be human in a universe that’s anything but.

#Babylon5 S2.6 "Spider in the Web": Starts with a pre-titles sequence set in the San Diego Wastes (a ruined landscape of devastated buildings) with spy-type mischief going on. I have questions. Was San Diego obliterated in the Minbari War? Why is it a waste? And why would spies work out of ruins???

Buffy the Vampire Slayer S1.11: It's the one with the invisible girl. The part we enjoyed the most was seeing (or rather not seeing) all the invisible people in the government spy training program at the end. Another solid episode, & the first time Cordelia shows real depth as a character.

#StarTrek TNG "Data's Day": I like the parts with the Romulans a lot & Data's face while he's learning to dance is a hoot. It's also nice to see the night shift. So, does Data work multiple shifts every day? He's awake with Picard as well during the day. Data is very forgiving, working with Maddox.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer S1.10 "Nightmares": The script nicely weaves nightmares into the real world. Cordelia's bad hair nightmare is a funny bit, while Xander being mortified to show off his bare muscles is less convincing. Buffy as a vampire is a highlight. Another winner of an episode.

Nice suit. Guess he's mutton dressed as lamb.

If they found adapting the comics wasn't working, they should have thrown it all aside & done their own thing instead. What we get is neither one thing nor the other. In contrast, Lucifer, the TV series, has almost nothing to do with the comics & is very much a fun experience.
culttvmike.bsky.social
It's not only the gender swap with Constantine - the character's literally not Constantine in how s/he behaves. Overall, the show's overly faithful in areas where the stories don't work for TV, & too unfaithful an adaptation in areas where it could work on TV. SFXs only get a show so far.
culttvmike.bsky.social
For me, Lucifer's casting just doesn't work. Some other casting is OK but not tremendous (Death). However, they mostly have great actors (Dream himself, Destiny, Delirium, Loki, Puck, the Dreaming's inhabitants generally, even Desire). Constantine's completely altered, beyond recognition.

I watched all the way through Sandman Season 2, even the "bonus" episode. It was... not a fun watch, sadly. It forgot to be entertaining. It also felt like it was rushing to an end. The Lucifer plot is simply abandoned, & Dream never even says "It was Loki's fault!" Kinda found it frustrating.

Adding this to my To Be Read pile. I hear it's good. The Bond by F. K. Miller. Fantasy fans should give it a try. #AmReading
