* Destroying monsters in the defense position won't affect your opponents life points at all

* When they have no monsters you attack directly and do all the damage directly.

* So, your monster has 2000 attack and you attack directly then your opponent takes 2000 damage to their life points.

* If you kill it, the difference in attack is how much damage you do to your opponent

* For example, if your monster has two thousand attack and theirs has 1500, you'll do 500 damage to their life points

* However if it's defense, you need higher attack than their defense

* You have 8000 life points. So does your opponent, you drain it by attacking with monsters

* You can't attack directly if they have monsters in the field, and attack the monsters instead.

* If they are face up and you attack, you need a higher attack than they do to kill it

* Then there are monsters. They can be summoned in defense or attack position

* In attack they're face up, laid down normally. In defense you set the card upside down and sideways.

* Monsters tell you how much attack and defense they have

* All cards have a description that says what they do, but for reals you have to wait for it to be activated by the opponent, for the most part

* Like Mirror Force, which activates off the field when an opponents monster attacks you, you activate it to destroy all monsters they have in the field

* Okay... So. There are three major card types. Spells, traps and monsters

* Spells have a description that tell you what they do. Such as Monster Reborn that allows you to bring a monster back from the graveyard

* A trap you can't activate instantly like a spell unless it says so
