The music that plays for the arcade game in this clip was a discarded attempt at a battle theme. I spruced it up a little and repurposed it for this! 🎵

In a twist of fate, I found the cause in the script before seeing the effect! I was fixing a different bug with items when I saw that they were checking that one variable for the battle state. I thought "won't that break that one cave?" and went to check and sure enough it did! 😆

Herbs can be used in and out of battle. When used in battle they have logic to change the tiles that display health. In this cave the variable used to check for battles is used for music. This causes herbs to think there's a battle going on when used and try to change the tiles graphics accordingly.

I know the cause. The variable that tracks the turn order for battles is used here to track the music progression that's unique to this cave. There's no battles here so I thought it was safe but items and spells check that variable when used, think there's a battle, and try to change the UI's tiles.

No matter how hard I try, there will always be at least one weird glitch that sneaks through the cracks.

This is what happens if you use a healing item in the first cave in the game. It's fine in all other caves.
