the more I think about it, the more I dislike Zero One lol. Makes me wanna check out Janperson to see what the fuss is about, especially since everyone I know who's seen the show calls it one of the best MH series, with a much better depiction of a futuristic robot world than Zero One.

instead, Aruto and Hiden Intelligence are treated as the undisputed good guys of the story. All the while issues that arose in this futuristic society are swept under the rug with the message being "we just need to be nicer guise".

I haven't seen Star Trek, but if Zero One wanted to do the "should sentient robots be treated like people?" approach akin to Astro Boy and Blade Runner, it at least needs to frame the society where robots are born to work and sold as commodity as something inherently unfair and dystopian

yea...the show's racism allegory is terrible. It baffles me that they somehow thought keeping the show's status quo intact and framing it as something positive was a good way to end the series. But hey, at least Aruto gets a shiny new servant modeled after his previous deceased servant now.

it's one of my favorite manga ever. It's actually pretty well-received in Japan, and Naoko Takeuchi even gave it a quick shoutout. I guess for a lot of fans who were only exposed to the OVA adapting its earlier rougher parts, missing out on its wholesome ending, they wouldn't be too keen on it.

It's sadly a widespread phenomenon in a lot of male-dominated fandom spaces sadly. I'd say shounen anime communities have it worst though. Way more sweaty dudes who are insecure about their masculinity. The dudebros there are 10x more insufferable than the most annoying toku fans lol.
