"The exercise of imagination is dangerous to those who profit from the way things are because it has the power to show that the way things are is not permanent, not universal, not necessary."

— Ursula K. Le Guin
A coalition of civil liberties, data privacy, refugee and migrant rights & gender justice organizations strongly opposes the government’s introduction of Bill C-12, which seeks to fast track, rather than address, many aspects of Bill C-2’s myriad problems.

A broad coalition of civil-society groups urges the Canadian government to withdraw its two border bills: Bill C-12 and Bill C-2.

This week, the Canadian government introduced a new border security bill, C-12, that does nothing more than attempt to speed up the adoption of the anti-refugee and anti-migrant parts of Bill C-2, the Trump-like "Strong Borders Act."

Take action and call for both bills to be withdrawn.

“Anyone who has any critique of Trump is potentially in the crosshairs,” says @mark-bray.bsky.social, a Rutgers professor who fled the country with his family after receiving death threats for his antifa scholarship.
The US was pushed right off the cliff and has been falling every day deeper into the chasm of fascism. There is nothing stopping or even slowing the fall. But if the people choose to, they can stop it any time. The only hope, the only power, is in the masses rising up.

And... "democracy" has melted away.
After fascism is once again defeated, the people who resisted ICE, resisted Trump, and worked to stop this reign of terror will all be remembered as heroes. Fascists will call them criminals now, but they will be celebrated.
Every technological innovation now and in the future will always reproduce and amplify the inequality we have today until the underlying structural systems are challenged. Debating each new tech innovation is a distraction, it's our culture, society, politics, and economy.

#OtD 15 Oct 1940 Charlie Chaplin's first talkie The Great Dictator debuted in New York (while the US was still formally at peace with Nazi Germany). If the wealth of every US billionaire was distributed to the 90% of US households who make less than $250k, every household would get about $60k. And at the rate those billionaires concentrate wealth, within just a few days all of those billionaires would be millionaires again.

The fascists are not only terrified of anti-fascism, they're terrified of all forms of resistance, all forms of living in opposition to their fear and hate. They're terrified of your joy, your solidarity, your community, your creativity, your gender, your sexuality, your nudity.
The competition of capitalism doesn't produce the best version of something. We saw social media companies compete for attention. Now watch as AI companies compete with each other by making their product increasingly more dangerous, even deadly in the case of military contracts.

#OtD 14 Oct 1977 anti-gay crusader Anita Bryant was "pied" by Thom Higgins, a gay rights activist. She then began praying and burst into tears. Following a boycott, she lost her job as brand ambassador for Florida orange juice. More LGBT+ history here: workingclasshistory.com/tag/lgbtq/
These paintings are not only anti-fascist images from WWII, they also reflect universal human rights that became foundational in the creation of the United Nations, and in the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights (December 10, 1948).

The "Freedom from want" image looks like a US thanksgiving or other holiday meal. But it's based on FDR's State of the Union speech in which he described the universal human right to economic security. The RIGHT to a basic standard of living for all people, everywhere.
Every time someone uses this image, they are using an explicitly anti-fascist work of art. catalog.archives.gov/id/513536
Rockwell's Freedom of Speech painting — an ordinary man speaking at a town meeting.
The four universal human rights that FDR articulated in his State of the Union were:

Freedom of Worship

By the time Rockwell painted these, they were a direct comment on what Americans were fighting to protect, not just at home but universally, around the world, by opposing fascism in WWII. They were used in drives to raise money for war bonds, specifically to fight fascism.
Did you know these are anti-fascist paintings? Rockwell's "Four Freedoms" were based on FDR's 1941 State of the Union about universal human rights which was a direct rebuke of fascism, defining what the Allies were fighting for against Hitler and Mussolini.
Four Freedoms, a series of 1943 paintings by Norman Rockwell honoring Franklin D. Roosevelt's Four Freedoms, meant to describe the freedoms for which allied nations fought in World War II.
What happens when the same people who are in charge of the regulations and enforcement to prevent market manipulation are the ones manipulating the market.
Trump Friday, causing market dip: "China tariffs 100%!" Trump Sunday, after buying the dip: "Don't worry about China, it's all fine!" Trump and his allies are so obviously crashing the market, buying, then resolving the issue they created to cause the dip, and profiting.

This is fascism. Trump is an authoritarian. The US government is ruling over us with policies of authoritarian ultranationalism, which is fascism. There is an authoritarian ultranationalist supremacist fascist cult of personality around Trump. That is what this is. Say it.
Trump was lying for years before US media and even most politicians were willing to call it lying. The same thing is happening today with authoritarianism and fascism. Just because media and politicians will take another year to say it doesn't mean it isn't true today.
