This month's Tipperary's Hidden History on @tippfm.bsky.social was not an easy listen. Another sad perspective on the attitudes of those operating the dreaded workhouse.

Watching that chimney is a wholesome exercise in mindfulness for me!!

How shocking would it be if the cardinals gave us as big a shock as the OJ Simpson murder trial jury and wrapped it up in about four hours?!!

Watched a BBC Storyville doc last night on the Christian Evangelical Right in the US & their path to armageddon which only runs through a restoration of Biblical-era Israeli borders. And they are now firmly established on Capitol Hill & in the White House. Utterly depressing.
So who starts this week a cardinal and ends the week as Pope?

For me, there's no more fascinating leadership contest in the world. And dramatic.
Now that the funeral is over, the only conclave movie I'm interested in watching in the coming weeks is The Shoes of the Fisherman.
I agree that local history should be more effectively linked to national contexts in primary & secondary education. For example, who is that street named after and why? Now let's have an honest, unvarnished look at that person. We really should not shy away from the difficult questions.
So their views were developed for opportunistic, transactional purposes? And there is obviously the conundrum of applying modern moral principles to a history we can't change. Do we reduce it to a 'they didn't know any better' excuse, or hold them responsible for their dark ideals? It's fascinating.
I never wanted to be accused of wokeism or cancel culture. But Mitchel is already very well documented in history but I wanted to know how people felt about continuing to 'honour' him by having his name on their address or GAA club. I still wonder, Emma.
Morning Emma!

Thanks for the question! Would you believe, you are probably the first! I also did a piece this for Tipp FM, where I do a little monthly history slot. I'll dig out the link for you. Of all people, it was my GP that prompted me to explore it.
Imagine allowing an issue to become a talking point or national agenda item because it is raised by a criminally convicted rapist. Difficult issues should, of course, be discussed, but not when or because they have been raised by a rapist. We've sunk low.
My brother's dog had a toe removed today. His bestie has gone out in sympathy and started carrying one leg when he's walking 😂🐶❤️

I'm no prophet but I truly believe that sometime in the far or near future, the Western world will rue the day we abandoned the people of Gaza.
He was a genius of the highest order and the history of television would have been so different without him.

RIP David Lynch 🙏
Watching Mary on Netflix for some traces of historical accuracy but as often happens, the film is let down by out-of-era dialogue & language. Mary's mother is unlikely to have used the phrase 'we'll get through this as a family'. Likewise, Mary said to Joseph when first seeing him, 'you're crazy'.
Commissioned by my friends at Tipp FM (the word 'commissioned' is doing a lot of heavy lifting there) to watch the big debate tonight & do a review in the morning.

Who will I deem the victor? Who will I declare a dud? Surely an entire county is on tenterhooks awaiting my proclamations? 😜
