27. I Want You to Love Me - Fiona Apple #TheTwen2ie5
fantastic to have Fiona back. hard to believe we were without her for 8 years (and that it's already been 5 years since Bolt Cutters). just as full of life, humanity, and character as she's always been.
LOCK UP. THE DOOR. PUT THE PONY ON ALL FOURS. CRACK DOWN. THE WHIP. MAKE THE PONY BITE THE BIT. SPIT ON. MY FACE. PUT THE PONY IN HIS PLACE. I AM. YOUR TOY. JUST A LITTLE PONY BOY.
Arsenal on for a 90+ pt title win imo. wouldn't put it beyond them to win a cup as well. think they're that good this year. Arteta's finally cracked it and found that balance.
a shame this doesn't quite reach its potential. perhaps stopped from doing so by a chorus that arrives without much invitation. but hey, Autumn was a cracking EP, so it was surrounded by a lot of hot competition.
not their most invigorating composition but i appreciate Rivers' honesty here. perhaps the most uncomfortably revealing lyrics he'd written since Pinkerton. what *do* you do when your ex-girlfriend's partner dies?
they needed a big single from the second SZNZ EP so they put this on it. fair enough. still, it performs its function. this is the one that, when i play the SZNZ EPs, my wife says she likes the most.
like all of Hurley, this is incredibly LOUD and Rivers is shouting more than he is singing, but it's still romantic and it still swoons like the best of Weezer's sunnier material.
not one of the strongest cuts from EWBAITE, but i guess it's proof of how strong the album is that even the weaker cuts are making it up this high. there's something a bit Green Album about it, as well.
honestly, a great tune. that bridge section is killer. but the song this was adapted from, Since You Came Around, is a million times better and makes me frustrated that it wasn't included in the final tracklist.
honestly, as silly and stupid as this is, it's also a huge blast of fun. Rivers at his strangest, the sudden tempo and key change midway through is baffling. and the whole thing is actually about SOCKS.
playing FIFA 16 earlier this evening. i scored a goal that immediately made me think "surely that was offside", so i went back and watched the replay, and, yeah, absolutely no idea what's gone on here or how the CPU/game has missed it.
a cute song from Rivers to his daughter. perhaps a little too revved up for the subject matter but his affection shines through all the same. killer solo too!
starts off like a house on fire. then those awkward falsetto vocals come in and the song immediately judders to a halt that it can't really recover from. still, Maladroit's a good record and it's taken this long to be repped.
a nothingy chorus takes the edge of this cutesy little post-Beatles McCartney-style ballad. "have a nice life, have some more Sprite" remains one of my favourite stupid Weezer lyrics.
i think that's it from Teal now. thank god. anyway, this one is fine. actually allows itself to be a little ironic, a little funny, a little unexpected. they know this is silly and they're fine with it.
146. I Don't Want to Let You Go (Raditude) #weezer195
one of the only songs on Raditude that allows the music to speak for itself instead of piling on the studio effects and compression. an emotional little ballad to close off their worst album of original songs.
