Also, sorry to not actually answer your question - yup, authors generally have very little say in their covers, though an author with more fame and clout might have more input. (But still unlikely)

It is difficult to get a no AI clause in contracts with certain publishers. As this is not an indie author making a deliberate choice to use AI, the blame here is currently going to the publisher.

One of the things that became very clear to me when I moved to Scotland was why it had so many stories of the fey and the weird. The landscape and weather are ideal for breeding strange unsettling things.
