Ken Sugimori was the Design and World Concept Supervisor on Pokemon Legends Z-A.

He's on the Board of Directors at Game Freak being one of the major contributors of Pokemon Red/Green, but he's still hands-on with every mainline game.

Nakano: Link’s appearance has always been a little bit androgynous, and he has some effeminate traits as well. One might say that those traits are his roots.

Perhaps the fact that in the Japanese A Link to the Past commercial featuring Scha Dara Parr’s Zelda rap, the person dressed up as Link was female was also symbolic of that.
