Only a fool or an insincere troll wouldn't understand that respirators exist and create less waste. If you're worried about the environment, look to the fossil fuel companies and not the everyday consumer.

Thankfully I have the ability to distance and my wife is completely on my side, but I'm also delaying several medical procedures too. When I'm feeling terrible about all of this, I tell myself and others that even if we never receive better, we always deserved it. It seems to give some comfort.

This is what it's like for those with compromised immune systems and other conditions that predispose a person to severe symptoms and death if they catch covid. The population at large doesn't care if they kill us. It was "inevitable", they'll say. Eugenics is alive and well while we sicken and die.

If the ongoing pandemic has taught me anything after 5 years mostly in isolation it's that in the eyes of society:

I'm dispensable.
I'm worthless.
I'm a nuisance.
I'm a burden.
I don't matter.

Try living with that every day. Try coming on here and seeing people routinely reinforce that message.

Your experience of this sounds very similar to my own. When I see an unmasked face, I see a person who doesn't know or doesn't care that they could kill me. I've also got a congenital heart condition that predisposes me to sudden death. I've been lucky, but for how much longer?

So am I. It doesn't matter than your mother and my grandmother were elderly, they shouldn't be treated as disposable. Their deaths should not be seen as any more "inevitable" as anyone's. You'd think HCWs would care more about spreading infection, and then I remember Dr. Semmelweiss and shudder.

I'm incredibly sorry for your loss. My grandmother likely had her life shortened by repeat infections in the hospital. It's terrible, but people refuse to do the simplest thing that's proven to prevent infection. No, they need to LIVE THEIR LIVES while killing others. So much pointless death. 💔

It really doesn't. Even excess CO2 makes heads fuzzy and learning more difficult. Why wouldn't you want sharper kids with better learning abilities? Sometimes the CO2 got so bad we'd all be fighting sleepiness, and that's long before I developed chronic fatigue. It's comoletely unreasonable.

For the record, while it's known as the "kissing disease", I was not kissing anyone and wouldn't begin for some time. While it does spread by surfaces and fomites, cleaning the air is vital and cuts down on transmission.

You shouldn't have to, but thank you for paying out of your own pocket to keep children safe. I began developing ME/CFS in high school, likely due to Epstein-Barr virus, another oncogenic virus with devastating sequelae. The measures you're taking for your child and and school might've kept me safe.
