Book 91, another audiobook, by an author recommended to me here on Bluesky, Elly Griffiths. I started with The Postscript Murders, which is similar to the Thursday Murder Club series and Anthony Horowitz's meta-mystery, book-themed books like Magpie Murders or the Hawthorne and Horowitz series.
Book 90, audiobook for the next Thursday Murder Club, The Impossible Fortune by Richard Osman. Always entertaining but my least favourite of the series so far
Same, it was incredible
Book 89, and very late to the party but I finally read Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel. It was as good as advertised. Am so intrigued now about the TV series, as it seems a v hard tone/story to adapt but I know people love it
Definitely worth trying and honestly, Some Desperate Glory was completely brilliant in such an unexpected way, if you like sci-fi.
My absolute favourite book this year was The Raven Scholar by Antonia Hodgson but that's 650 pages so you need to know the person would be up for that!
Murder by Memory by Olivia Waite, novella, Christie-esque murder mystery on a spaceship
The Incandescent by Emily Tesh (magic school in modern setting from pov of the teacher)? Even better, but less recent, is her Some Desperate Glory (sci-fi). Not sure if you're buying for anyone who reads kids/YA as I have some in those categories if you need them
I really liked Pagans, such an interesting world/concept but in a modern style crime format
Book 88, a manga from the school library - the very sweet first volume of BL Metamorphoses by Kaori Tsurutani
Book 87, the next in my Tiffany Aching audiobook re-read - I Shall Wear Midnight by Terry Pratchett
Book 86, Katabasis by R F Kuang. Highly anticipated and I really enjoyed it but Babel is probably still my favourite book of hers
I'm so excited by the Children's Booker announcement. It's really great to see the focus on ages 8-12 (the Carnegies def skew much older), kids on the judging panel, the focus on getting books to kids and building a generation of readers is well thought through
Oh yeah I must admit I don't really pay attention to those bits, I had live interviews like that (see also: sports)
I'm so surprised that you feel that as someone I know enjoys Eurovision. I personally love it and we always watch as a family so it's a big change for us
Book 85, an audiobook re-read of Wintersmith by Terry Pratchett. I have said before but I absolutely adore Indira Varma as the narrator for the witches books and this was just a joy as ever
Book 84, an eagerly anticipated new T Kingfisher, fairy-tale-inspired book, Hemlock and Silver. Brilliant as always, absolutely my favourite author. A great main character
Book 83 was the audiobook of the next in the Richard Osman series, Last Devil To Die, reliably entertaining as always
Book 82, a re-read of the wonderful Tale of Time City by Diana Wynne Jones whose books are always rewarding to re-read, especially with the wonderful discussion on the @eightdaysofdiana.bsky.social podcast
Books 78, 79, 80, 81 are 4 novellas from the Pen and Desdemona series by Lois McMaster Bujold. I love her writing and these novellas are so good and easy reads as I'm in a weird reading mood: Masquerad in Lodi, Penric's Mission, Mira's Last Dance, The Prisoner of Limnos
FFS Abby. Sending tiny Lego pieces to everyone involved in that emailing to step on during the course of today
That genuinely is extremely delightful
Book 77, another cute cosy romantasy from Sangu Mandanna, a Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping. Love the world and she writes such sweet characters with an adorable found family vibe
I hope it is helpful, sending much love (mental health all round please if there's lots on offer)
