Really enjoyed being on the Brazilian Shirt Name pod with @radiodotun.bsky.social and Tim Vickery earlier chatting about THE SLUM SPORT: 1985/86, the genesis of the Premier League, TV blackout, electric fences, 80s' music and, of course, Shakespeare.

I suspect the key members within the church may not even know. I doubt their committee would be happy

Well, well. Somebody forgetting to change their account.

If his other account struggles with the word racism then you have cracked it. 🔍🔍

Insane prices. The whole (only) beauty of the bloated World Cup will be seeing new countries, unknown players, first-time qualifiers entering the tournament. Most fans will have no chance of affording this, regardless of where their allegiances lie.

And this is before dynamic pricing kicks in

As a friend who was planning to go to the 2026 WC told me, "this settles it". He won't.
Comparison of prices between the prices of tickets at the 2022 and 2026 Fifa World Cup, showing prices increases of up to 1,000%.

We used to see this with Hegazi. People raving about how good he was because of his last ditch defending. He genuinely was one of the worst centre halves I've seen play for us over the last 20 years - for the very reasons you cite here

I've watched a couple actually.

I think he suffered from the Lee Hughesification of the Brom. (ie being there at the same time as a local boy who was so much more popular)

Sean Flynn, without the press-ups. Re Flynn, was listening to a pod this week where it was claimed Souness signed Julian Dicks on the strength of his elbow on Flynny after the then Coventry man had hacked him down a few minutes earlier.

There is not a manager in the EFL like Sergej Jakirovic at #hcafc. Spent a fascinating morning with him 👇

🟠 Hull was 'destiny' 🐅
⚫️ Growing up in war-torn Bosnia 🇧🇦
🟠 Acun Ilicali's message 👏
⚫️ 'I need my players to be more b*stards!' 👊

Big read 👇 inews.co.uk/sport/footba...
Sergej Jakirovic: Hull City’s owner told me I’ll be here for 10 years
In an exclusive interview, the Hull City head coach discusses his football philosophy, dealing with a transfer embargo and his friendship with Chris Wilder

The notion that any government will influence even the most moderate of clubs is pie in the sky.

First big test: Sheff Wednesday owner. If they don't resolve that one to the satisfaction of the fans, then the first swathe of 'what's the point?' questions will begin
chrislepkowski.bsky.social
This all feels a bit too good to be true. Will owners really be told what they can and can't spend - and IFR having confidence they won't find, & use, loopholes?
And then the small print re fans. Consultation doesn't necessarily mean strategic influence. But it should

Football clubs will have to prove financial health before being granted licence under IFR plans
All 116 clubs in England's top five divisions will have to prove they are financially healthy before being granted a licence allowing them to compete, under plans released by football's new watchdog.

🇨🇻 what an achievement!

Agree with both. A more mobile Mowatt, a fitter-than-Dike finisher.

But... January is pot luck. You're more likely to get a Montero or Lankshear than a Richardson, Campbell or Price. We shall see.

Funds aren't the big issue. Finding the appropriate players, who clubs are willing to release, is the main challenge. Suspect all will be determined by what happens between now and then. If we have a realistic chance of POs/top 2, then yes. If we don't, keep powder dry for summer. That's what I'd do

🎙️Enjoyed speaking to BBC Tees about THE SLUM SPORT

Includes a chapter about #Middlesbrough's demise & rebirth in 1986 - a period when Ayresome Park was padlocked up, with players training on park pitches & having to wash their own kit.

Listen out for it on tomorrow evening's show. #Boro
