Moving my 2-year-old #24WaysToSupportCommunication from Twitter to keep a copy here as we countdown to Christmas ✨

If you’re supporting a a loved one who needs speech-language and/or communication aid, these strategies might help to reduce frustrations + make interaction a better experience
🤍
Me:
I want to start playing LaDS but I might not have enough time to login everyday. Will the guys die if I don’t login consistently?

Husband:
…they are not tamagotchi…

Me:
Oh great phew (has killed way too many virtual pets for forgetting about them).
Laughters aside (at my quite unnecessary side quest), so glad that patients can order whatever they feel like eating and it will be modified to the consistency safest for them after dysphagia assessments.

No sacrificing taste and quality of life for oral safety.
Me:
Painstakingly modifying the hospital’s western menu like spaghetti, baked potatoes, grilled chicken etc to IDDSI dysphagia-friendly meals

Patients:
Orders mostly from the asian menu of chicken with goji berries and steamed fish with cordyceps etc

Me:

Hospital-based SLT’s morning be like:
- look at list of cases in the system
- calls food service to order food for meal observations and swallowing assessments, realising that we have “steamed fish slices with ginger and goji berries” today on the menu WOW 😯

To many safer oral meals today ✨
Working with a child with misophonia recently and I can’t wait to learn how we can include games too😍

PS: from low vision, hearing, to ADHD and many more, I’ve always told the husband that in another life (if I’m not an SLT), I’d like to be a game developer working to make games more accessible ✨
Speaker announcement📢

The full lineup for GAConf USA 2025 is now online, including lots of previously unannounced talks - from FC26 to the Nhuad controller, from AbleToPlay to South of Midnight!

From item highlights (thick outline) to keyboard-only input, had a nice chat with the gamedevs about accessibility features and how this could be a nice ice breaking game to practice communication skills too.

Thank you for making it possible for everyone to game 🎮✨
Played Duo Quest by @1plus1studios.bsky.social with the husband today (and we didn’t murder each other) 😌✨

Love the simple mechanics, cute art, whimsical music, and the option to build a deck of “no block, only bonk”.
We shouldn’t be asking Children of Deaf Adults (CODA) or children of immigrants/refugees to interpret and translate for their parents, especially in healthcare settings 😮‍💨🥲
Yesssss 😂 main quest long forgotten lol
Was in the husband’s hometown last weekend and we were driving by a place when the husband introduced:

Him: I used to come here for the methadone clinic.

Me: 👀

Him: … I was attached to the clinic; not for the services.
And farming/fishing/gathering 💯
The main purpose of playing a video game is to find cute outfits for your character to wear ❤️
In case you need to buy a game with:
- stunning art
- banging soundtrack
- great narrative about living and navigating grief with loved ones whilst holding safe space and be graceful to yourself in difficult times

…it’s the cheaper of this two 😌
I have once again decided to run away from Modern World Responsibilities and go inherit my fictional grandpa’s farm:
Oh yes, also met @ivanhlb.bsky.social who’s also in healthcare and making Isekai-ya 😋 so happy to talk about high contrast colours, designs, and texts presentation that help supports visual disabilities ✨

Thank you for sharing your game with the world. Can’t wait to play more!
As someone NOT from the gaming industry, I sat there listening to speakers talking about the struggles in developing/publishing games. The uncertainty, anxiety, stress etc

So I sit in my healthcare industry, thinking:
Creative jobs are so difficult I wouldn’t be able to do it 😮‍💨
Also finally got to try @kopiforge.bsky.social ‘s Sedap 🍴

Adorable art, delicious (and familiar) dishes, and chaotic chopping 😆 can’t wait to play more of the game. Thank youuuu for the cute stickers too!
Here at Indie Jam to support @yyng7.bsky.social and her impactful PhD findings ✨

Learned so much from her work on cultural representation in games and how developers can move forward in balancing mechanics and platforming our local cultures and stories.
So many people using genAI art and I’m just here reposting my old scribbles of the husband showing me where the wards were in his hospital when I was covering it during the peak of covid lockdown.

Pen, notebook paper, and badly drawn bunny + hedgehog ❤️
Will it ever be too much BG3? 😆
PS: I collected the names of all these kind people and wrote them a gratitude note in the government system. This will not increase their pay (it should) or anything but at least, their kindness should be seen and acknowledged.

So ever grateful for all our amazing staff on the ground. From the kind security officer, the registration counter staff, to the audiologist who patiently addressed my dad’s concerns:

Thank you for the kindest, warmest Malaysian public healthcare experience ❤️

Dad chose the one he felt most comfortable acoustically and we signed the JPA application form to apply his hearing aids through his pensioner status.

No next appointment given yet. We’ll be notified when the application is processed. All done within 2 hours.

His audiologist asked him to walk around the clinic to have a feel of the different sound quality. We went to the noisiest place in the hospital & I tried some Ling 6 sounds with him.

We tried listening to music, phone calls, watching his grandkids’ (my nephews’ videos) etc

Forgot to update here too but:
2 months later, we went for the hearing aids trial appointment at the hospital 🦻✨

Dad got to try out 3 different brands of hearing aids (I forgot to take photo of the other one 😅).

My mum when I was 7:
It’s your birthday - the time to be grateful to all your blessings. Let’s pick a cause (eg homelessness, HIV etc) you want to learn more and we go visit them to find out how to best support them.

My mum when my nephew turns 7:
Let’s go genting theme park 🎢
