Hello stranger. I live in the Twin Cities, which is how you pronounce Saint Paul. I spend too much time in front of the computer when I should be on my bicycle. I work in infosec. he/him/his

People share links all the time and I have to say:

Y'all put up with way more mediocre content than I am willing to tolerate
I was weirded out by numerous people stopping outside my house to take pictures today

Then I realized the maple out front is peak fall color right now, a spectacular specimen
There's always been a gilded palace at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave
When I read that O Superman charted in the UK 🤯
You're an Alaskan pollock. You find yourself caught in a net. Oh no, you say. I'm finally caught! My untimely demise because I'm highly prized and delicious!

Er, well, says the fisherman. You'll actually be mashed up and turned into imitation crab. Sorry to break it to you.
I am way ahead of my cats with basic snap-traps (I deploy them in the basement where the cats aren't allowed)
The literal and figurative demolition of the White House
Written poetry has given us line breaks and stanzas and SHOUTING and (e e cummings)

which both augment

My neighbor posited that poetry is the most democratic of art forms

If you can read and write, he said, you can create a poem

But it's even more democratic than that, poetry is an oral tradition!
When I first heard a co-worker say he won the meat raffle at the bar I thought that meant he hooked up with someone!
Anyone who calls themself a "thought leader" I'm not following
If you mean Abogados it's typically very quiet there
"Intentionality and presence toward labor is a luxury. To be able to put time and labor into things other than pure productivity is something we're pushed away from"

Do the tools that help make us more productive make work less fulfilling? What would William Morris say?

Opinion: Faster means faker
Faster means faker. We’re losing access to our simple material pleasures as convenience culture sucks the joy out of everything good and enriching.  Our simple material and hedonistic pleasures are...

I enjoy both those things but I have never paired them and your endorsement has me unconvinced!
The things I despise most about running events are the DJs and the music. It's too much that early in the morning.

However, if they're going to be there, I do expect them to play "Gonna Fly Now" (the theme from Rocky).
Forgot, thanks to 90° weather, that it's Spooky Name season!

This year I will carry on my tradition of picking a name vaguely like my real name
I used to draw pictures on the back of mine (my company changed logos several times, we were always getting new cards printed)
Enjoy the talk! If you hope to ask a question, I advise sitting near an aisle where they can reach you with a mic.

Most of the questions that come to mind I can anticipate his answer. I hope you find a good question to ask, and one that surprises him!
I don't know that most 12-year-olds would be orchestrating their 2028 coup 3 years in advance
In my defense I thought the speed limit was 35 mph in that stretch. Sorry!
In summary: it didn't feel very nice to me.

(But now I've shared it, the most important thing for any ad campaign. I played right into their hands, dammit.)
When I saw the "Minnesota Nice. Mississippi Smarter." billboard I thought: is this offensive?

What did I hear in Alabama, the state that ranked 49th in everything? "Thank God for Mississippi."

The website claims that Mississippi turned things around. But does the ad play on that old perception?
It was much more energetic, this should be more broadly adopted!
How Polish and Catholic was the Lech Wałęsa audience tonight in Minneapolis?

After we were prompted to sing Happy Birthday (he turned 82 yesterday) half the crowd sang Sto Lot (the Polish equivalent) unprompted

And there were two audience questions about popes (John Paul II and Leo XIV)
After getting bombarded with ads for the event for months, I finally caved and bought a ticket to see Lech Wałęsa speak in Minneapolis tomorrow night

I would assume that you've all been getting the same ads, but I suspect The Algorithm is onto me
