First reviews are out for The Vanished Ones! Reviewers have called it “thoughtful,” along with engaging, compelling, and action-filled! It’s out January 28 and available for preorder now. #mglit
Image shows the cover for The Vanished Ones, a middle grade novel by Chad Lucas. Two boys, one dark-skinned and one light-skinned, are pictured in golden light above an island in the foreground. The image includes quotes from two reviews:

“A compelling, action-filled narrative in which Darian embodies both hope and the story’s central tension… A thoughtful depiction of youthful triumph over adult exploitation.” - Kirkus Reviews

“Lucas builds an engaging mystery with a dash of Afrofuturism, giving a thoughtful reflection on colonialism and its effects on society.” - Booklist
There was no one quite like D'Angelo. One of the most incredible artists of my lifetime. Black Messiah and Voodoo are both classics.
Untitled -> Africa is maybe my favourite 1-2 closing run on any album, ever.

What D’Angelo said Black Messiah means. It came out at the end of 2014 and it was so needed.
Article (Nolan Feeney; TIME) excerpt reads: “Black Messiah is a hell of a name for an album. It can be misunderstood. Many will think it's about religion. Some will jump to the conclusion that I'm calling myself a Black Messiah. For me, the title is about all of us. It's about the world. It's about an idea we can all aspire to. We should all aspire to be a Black Messiah.

It's about people rising up in Ferguson and in Egypt and in Occupy Wall Street and in every place where a community has had enough and decides to make change happen, D'Angelo writes in a statement about the album It's not about praising one charismatic leader but celebrating thousands of them. Not every song on this album is politically charged (though many are), but calling this album Black Messiah creates a landscape there these songs can live to the fullest. Black Messiah is not one man. It's a feeling that, collectively, we are all that leader.”

“D’Angelo’s First Album in 14 Years Is Finally Here, and It’s Surprisingly Timely” via TIME.
There are still beautiful things in the world, like the Blue Jays dismantling the Yankees
It is a reminder though of just how many things had to break right for Golden State to win three in four years. A ripple or two goes differently and the whole landscape changes.
That’s very possible, and maybe he still has knee issues in 2018 that sour the relationship first. But it’s hard not to wonder what could have been.
Mine is Game 1 of the 2017 WCF. If Kawhi doesn't roll his ankle on Zaza's foot with SA up big, do the Spurs pull off the series upset? Does Kawhi stay? The ripples would affect the Spurs, GSW's legacy, the 2019 Raptors title, possibly the Clippers/OKC trade... and ultimately, Wemby's destination.
I know facial recognition tech is primarily used for ill, and I don’t want to live in a surveillance state, but I wish we could have a benign feature where my glasses summon the correct name when someone greets me in public and I know I know them but my recall function goes blank.
Hits in the series:
Yankees 6
Vladdy 6
YEESH

Going back to the regular-season finale against Tampa Bay, the Jays have scored 34 runs in their last 20 innings 😬😬😬

In honor of National Poetry Day, the greatest parody rewrite of all time:
Screen cap of parodic version of William Blake's "The Tyger" that begins:
Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright
(Not sure if I spelled that right)
What immortal hand or eye
Could fashion such a stripy guy?
What the hammer that hath hewn it
Into such a chonky unit?
Did who made the lamb make thee,
Or an external franchisee?
Playoff time is the worst time to live in the Atlantic time zone. The NBA Finals always ruin me.
OK but that sounds 1,000 times better than "garlic edition"
You definitely have to visit the Central library on Spring Garden Road. The library on the campus of the University of King's College (just next door to Dal) is also a great spot.
Welcome to Halifax! Hope you're having a great visit!
It’s the season when I watch more basketball coaching videos than usual, and then I get flooded with ads for training products and elaborate systems 🫠

I know everything is monetized but it bums me out just how much youth sport has become an industry

This is how you become a writer: just pick one of the things that is deeply wrong with you. Make it a character. Now send it on a self-help journey or try to kill it. Now call it a book.
Yeah, the vibes are off the charts. And as much as I loved those early 1990s teams, there’s something special about watching this group get it done with guys like Nathan Lukes and Ernie Clement.
Just a fantastic group. I haven’t been this invested in a Jays team since was a teenager. I love George Springer with my whole heart
That game was cathartic, these Blue Jays are a delight, bring on the playoffs
