Delighted to welcome students and teachers from Archmere Academy this morning to explore our Center for Teaching & Learning—diving into the Science of Learning, the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning, and what it means to translate research into practice.
I'm taking a deep dive into the (potential) benefits of 2-stage testing. I'm sharing the following slides with students today. I need to write this up, but I'm excited about what we've learned so far.

(Small sample size, blah blah. We'll do it all year.)

Long weekend. Short week. Endless grading.

This week’s WDYN Wednesday shares 3 quick reads to make feedback count—and grades mean less.

I am once again deploying a #deft touch and elite managerial skills to make the LLM run the data.
GOOD EVENING AND WELCOME TO SOCCER WEDNESDAY!

We are cooking with this @eactl.bsky.social scholars project on two-stage assessment, right out of the gates. 👀
Love to express my frustrations with the Eagles offense while teaching my kid 7 times tables.

Me: “IF KEVIN PATULLO PROPERLY UTILIZED HIS OFFENSIVE WEAPONS AND THE BIRDS SCORED 3 FIRST QUARTER TDS, AND JAKE THE MAKE TACKS ON THE EXTRA POINTS, WHAT’S THE SCORE?”

Kid: “21-0.”

In my British childhood I never dreamed I would one day get to live among these majestic beings.
THROWBACK MONDAY.

Bluesky: I have seized the means of production. And you’re an idiot because you say the pledge of allegiance once.

LinkedIn: BOOK ME & BUY MY THING. I’VE SENT ANOTHER DM.

The 5-year-old is entering his Mondrian phase it seems.
I also wrote about (basically) this back in August.

Je suis tired.

After August & September were marked by heatstroke every weekend we shifted abruptly into “Area Dad is once again shivering on the sidelines” mode today.

8–year-old: “What time do the Birds play?”

Me: “They played on Thursday, remember? They lost to the Giants. Somehow.”

8-year-old: “Well…at least they can’t lose today.”

Running headlong into my diplomat phase.
The 8-year-old, who is an absolute menace, had 2 TDs—one of which was an interception return for six.

The 10-year-old had 1 TD and got booted in the 2nd half while playing his old coach…who benched him in his last game last year.
Played ‘Dreams & Nightmares’ on the way to flag football tonight (clean version, don’t be crazy) so the kids are going to either have 5 TDs or be kicked out in the first half.
