When your humans are eating cake and they didn’t give YOU any!
What a thoughtful present to China, Russia, and Iran.
Thomas has taken to curling up in the sink when I’m in the bathroom since he knows that will get him attention, and today I found him curled up in the basket for the first time. Truly the comfiest of little men.
Woman who got banned from an island almost entirely populated by the descendants of criminals says what?
One of the first times my wife and I made a stir fry together we used a recipe that instructed us to add hot peppers flakes to heated oil. We promptly tear-gassed ourselves and our apartment did NOT have the ventilation to handle it. Nearly 20 years ago and the memory is still fresh.
I went into P5 almost completely blind immediately after reading the original Arsene Lupin novels, with the only thing I knew being that it was about a group calling themselves Phantom Thieves. I named the protagonist Lupin, which turned out to be pretty funny when his persona showed up.
I collected studies on 8 subject areas, read them, and built a database of summaries. My replacement fed the studies through AI to produce summaries because they didn’t understand that part of the point was becoming a well read expert who could use that knowledge to evaluate new proposals.
Yep, and half the point of taking notes is so that your brain has to process the information so it will take up residence there. Farming that job out to an AI will produce a written product but not help you remember at all. At my last job one of my tasks was an ongoing literature review.
When I bought a e-book copy I let it sit on my Kindle until I went somewhere where there were no forests for hundreds of miles. In retrospect this was a good decision, which I followed up by moving to a place famous for being haunted.
It’s frequently recommended as an alternative entry point into the series and introduces a lot of elements and characters that reoccur throughout the rest of the books.
I hope you enjoy it, The Color of Magic is the first book in the series and while I liked it a lot of people find it rough around the edges. If you find yourself thinking “this was kind of funny but I’m not sure what all the fuss is about” then you might want to try Guards! Guards!
Who robbed the Louvre? Right answers only.
Terrible news for comedians, the jokes are writing themselves now.
Picked up a new copy of an old classic before today’s pedicure. I was thinking about million to one chances the other day and that brought this to mind.
For no particular reason, does anybody know where Arsene Lupin III and/or Arsene Lupin IV are at the moment?
No Kings protest in the morning, attempt to recreate a Halal Guys platter in the evening. Hundreds of people showed up in a small city in Texas, and I think we came pretty close on the platter.
I can’t think of a better motivation to not want troops in your city than living next to the 82nd Airborne.
And a mime tries to kill you, never actually visited Paris but that’s about what I’d expect.
Huh, wonder if it’s significant that the commander of SOUTHCOM quit right after the first strike that left survivors?
Waiting for tomorrow’s post: “Have three thumbs and am vaccinated against flu and COVID. Those side effects are no joke.”
I have spent considerable time training my various social media algorithms to show me cat pictures, so I frequently get surprises like this. It’s why “Cat Pictures Please” is one of my favorite stories. clarkesworldmagazine.com/kritzer_01_15/

You can still find it if you navigate to a series or dig into a sub-menu, but it’s gone from the front page. At some point in the enshitification of technology 🏴‍☠️ becomes the most logical alternative.
Crunchyroll, has somehow managed to hire UI developers who consistently make the interface worse with each iteration. The previous major update on Roku removed the “newly updated” tab. The current update removed the ability to see a notification of new episodes on what you’re currently watching.
I completely understand if you’re not on Reddit, but there is a sub-Reddit there called r/blurry pictures of cats that is nothing but these kind pictures and people love them. I always smile when I see one.
