'Rules for thee, but none for me.' That's been the playbook for a long time now. It is only getting worse as the Trump regime degrades the rule of law. If you want to know what they are trying to achieve, read about the 'dual state' legal system that existed in Nazi Germany.
The “dual state” theory was invented to describe Nazis. The Supreme Court could take us there.
Authoritarianism—but make it look like the rule of law.

NEWS: An AFP fact-check reveals that a video posted by Donald Trump and the White House depicting "chaos" in Chicago as justification for deploying the national guard features old footage of incidents in other states including Florida, Texas, South Carolina and Nebraska.
"Insufficient funds" to make sure that children and their families here in the USA have food on the table but at the same time we're able to give $40 billion to Trump's buddy in Argentina?
That would be a comforting fact, if it were true which, unfortunately for us, it is not. Naked partisanship is becoming the norm, rather than the exception.
To many syllables their eyes would have glazed over before you were ever halfway through answering their question. Not that they really want an answer anyways. They know how they are perceived by the majority of this country. Otherwise, why do they hide their names and faces? They know what they are
I mean, sure, the near universal consensus is that John Bolton is an asshole. But being an asshole is not actually a crime in this country. As much as Bolton disgust me his due process rights being violated is just as important as your or my own rights being violated and we must defend him.
Oregon is a castle doctrine state. I'm just saying....things may get ugly.
PORTLAND, Ore. — When is it legal to use deadly force in Oregon? A review of the state's Castle Doctrine law showed some gray areas when it comes to defending your home or business.

With unrest across the country, some are taking the decision to protect themselves into their own hands.

What is legal? In short, you can always use deadly force to protect yourself or another if you reasonably believe someone is about to kill you. Using it to blanketly protect your business or neighbor's home is circumstantial.

The three instances when you can use deadly force are outlined explicitly in state law. First, when someone is committing or attempting to commit a felony involving the use or threatened imminent use of physical force against a person; second, someone is committing or attempting to commit a burglary in a dwelling; third, someone is using or about to use unlawful deadly physical force against a person.

Defense attorney Janet Hoffman said this allows a homeowner to use deadly force if someone breaks into his or her home, but she said it only applies to your own home.
It's projection. With these folks, anything that they accuse us of you can pretty much assume that they're either considered, or are already guilty of the same crime. They've been doing it for years now. Every accusation is really a confession.
Fuck 'em. No, really, fuck them. No bailout. They voted for this crap and now that the leopard are eating their faces they come running with their hands out. Make there be consequences for their choices. If they never feel the pain caused by voting for Republicans then they'll just keep doing so.
I keep coming back to this passage by Kelly Hayes about violence, in particular state sanctioned violence. This is why the corporate media consistently parrots the Trump regimes 'the radical violent Left' propaganda.
They Will Call You Violent
If your tactics disrupt the order of things under capitalism, you may well be accused of violence, because “violence” is an elastic term often deployed to vilify people who threaten the status quo. Conditions that the state characterizes as “peaceful” are, in reality, quite violent. Even as people experience the violence of poverty, the torture of imprisonment, the brutality of policing, the denial of health care, and many other violent functions of this system, we are told we are experiencing peace, so long as everyone is cooperating. When state actors refer to “peace,” they are really talking about order. And when they refer to “peaceful protest,” they are talking about cooperative protest that obediently stays within the lines drawn by the state. The more uncooperative you are, the more you will be accused of aggression and violence. It is therefore imperative that the state not be the arbiter of what violence means among people seeking justice.
I mean, I was going anyways but if they're serving cake there at the protest then I am definitely going.
their respective states into locally controlled escrow type accounts. If Trump cuts of federal funding to blue states, then we'll just keep the money local and cut out the middleman. No point in sending our hard earned money to the US Treasury anymore. I'd rather send it to my state capital.

Always. With Trump, everything is transactional. Even worse, he views the federal taxes that we all pay not as the money of the USA but his own personal money to do with as he pleases. Once again driving home the point that the blue states must develop a mechanism to divert federal taxes paid in

That's nice work. Something to wear with pride for the rest of their life.
be their own fault...they never accept responsibility for their own choices and actions.

They've already done the 'fuck around', now they are about to do the 'find out' phase. It will be interesting to see how they internalize this. Will it somehow, magically, still be Biden's or Obama's fault? Or, will it be the fault of some vaporous anti-fascist boggymen? Clearly, it could never

My household are big fans of TV show 'Shoresy' and "settle down" is a common utterance here. I get what you're saying, 'don't comply in advance' but the phrase still makes me smile.
Canadian tv comedy hockey show 'Shoresy'.

"Settle down..."
Back in 1968 the protest chant was "the whole world is watching". What was true back then in the age of real time images being projected into televisions in living rooms around the world is even more so now. With live streaming phones in everyone's hand the whole world really is watching.
Truth. I've seen a lot of relationships strain, and many fail, as people's true natures have come to the surface these past ten years. Grim. But at least it's all out in the open now and we can see folks true colors.
A Venn diagram of men who are predisposed towards domestic violence and men who would join ICE is a single perfect circle.
little weasel he is then why not give him enough rope to do so? She will be sworn in, no matter how much Johnson wishes it wasn't true. She can afford to spend a little bit of time letting him dig himself even deeper into the hole he is in.

My guess would be it's about optics. Sure, Grijalva could likely bypass Johnson and be sworn in as the duly elected rep of the AZ 7th right now despite him trying to block her. But if Speaker Johnson is willing to show everyone, not just people who pay attention to politics, what a craven
