“OH GOD I THINK I MIGHT BE THE BAD SMELL”

I think I’d heard the band before you put this on a playlist and made some variation of it the title of your playlist BUT your attention to that detail certainly made me like this band even more

Hello from 38. I spent my birthday traveling home from a wedding / ambushed by a cold. Grateful for the birthday wishes and the reminder (especially yesterday, but every day) that a bunch of kind souls ride on this wobbly space rock. (Louise Gluck, Ellen Bass, Adam Zagajewski poems as thanks) 🫀
Selfie on couch with tie dye Gillian Welch / David Rawlings shirt and hideous / comfortable skeleton cardigan TELESCOPE by Louise Gluck
There is a moment after you move your eye away when you forget where you are because you've been living, it seems, somewhere else, in the silence of the night sky.
You've stopped being here in the world.
You're in a different place,
a place where human life has no meaning.
You're not a creature in a body.
You exist as the stars exist, participating in their stillness, their immensity.
Then you're in the world again.
At night, on a cold hill, taking the telescope apart.
You realize afterward not that the image is false but the relation is false.
You see again how far away each thing is from every other thing. The World Has Need of You

everything here seems to need us

I can hardly imagine it
as I walk to the lighthouse, feeling the ancient prayer of my arms swinging in counterpoint to my feet.
Here I am, suspended between the sidewalk and twilight, the sky dimming so fast it seems alive.
What if you felt the invisible tug between you and everything?
A boy on a bicycle rides by, his white shirt open, flaring behind him like wings. ANECDOTE OF RAIN
By Adam Zagajewski

I was strolling under the tents of trees and raindrops occasionally reached me as though asking:
Is your desire to suffer, to sob?
Soft air, wet leaves;
—the scent was spring, the scent sorrow.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

If you'd like to delight in a side-by-side comparison, here's Bari Weiss' reported note to CBS staffers (left) and the one I cooked up on ChatGPT with a quickly dashed-off prompt (right). Looking forward to hearing from you in the days and weeks ahead!

wrote a quick one about the tech companies settling lawsuits with Trump. Yes, it’s cowardice. But it’s also an excuse to behave the way they’ve always wanted to (irresponsibly, with no regard for the consequences of their actions). Which, actually makes them a perfect part of the MAGA coalition

I said it in jest! And then told you that it was in jest because I explain every single joke I’ve ever made in my whole life, it’s a disease I have.

So infuriating to see the miracles made possible by human ingenuity held just out of reach by human cruelty and small-mindedness
