But, when possible, especially visually, I encourage clients to move away from this dark/light language. My suggestion is to avoid reinforcing harmful narratives and be mindful of the colors they use to represent “the bad side” (hackers).

While #editing an infographic about cybersecurity today, I came across design instructions to represent hackers as “bad” with the color black. This is a common trope in tech content, of course, given the language of “blacklist/whitelist” and “white hat/black hat.”

The book cover for my latest book, "True Color: The Strange and Spectacular History of Defining Color--from Azure to Zinc Pink." One of the most common AI phrases I see in blog content I edit: “X isn’t just about Y, it’s Z.”

As in: “Grocery shopping isn’t just about buying food, it’s a smart investment in your health.” (Yeah, these constructions *often* aren’t parallel constructions LOL)
