Just when I become optimistic upon seeing how stupid our enemies are, I become pessimistic when I see how few friends we have

This exchange lends a ton of support to this New York Times story from January that the White House previously denied. Trump reportedly joked in 2024 that Stephen Miller wants to purge the country of anyone who doesn't look like him — and Trump fully supports what he is doing.
“He has the president’s complete trust,” said Mr. McCarthy. “Trump’s complained about everyone. Never him.”
Mr. Trump may not complain about Mr. Miller, but he does occasionally poke at his obsession with immigrants — a hostility that goes far beyond Mr. Trump’s. In one meeting during the 2024 campaign, Mr. Trump said that if it was up to Mr. Miller there would be only 100 million people in this country, and they would all look like Mr. Miller, according to a person with knowledge of the comment. Karoline Leavitt, Mr. Trump’s spokeswoman, denied the account.

So far, more people have blocked me on here for mild criticisms of Pete Buttigieg than have blocked me for criticizing Science

If people block me for this at least I‘ll know I was blocked for Truth

Today on Volts: In a big blue city, a progressive up-and-comer is challenging an establishment Democrat to be mayor, having already scored a surprise win in the primary. Naturally I'm talking about Seattle's Katie Wilson! We talk housing, transit, public order, the threat of Trump, & much more.
Seattle mayoral candidate Katie Wilson on governing a blue city in 2025
NIMBYs below, Trumpies above, oh my.

I’m just saying even if this study is perfect (and no studies are) there’s still a significant chance that widespread common belief and myth is true.

Rat

I know a person that got into Western States through the lottery on her very first entry and then won the race.

Rat

Even if you uncritically accept this finding, that means there’s still at most a 1.33% chance that it’s a rat.

Not insignificant.

The Japanese parent company of 7-Eleven is betting billions of dollars that it can expand its business in the U.S. by making its convenience stores more like the food meccas they are in Japan. nyti.ms/3KTwGve

Increasingly we need candidates who'd be comfortable cutting a wrestling promo

Mamdani: "I just want to speak directly to the president. I will not be a mayor like Mayor Adams who will call you to stay out of jail. I won't be a disgraced governor like Andrew Cuomo who will call you to ask how to win this election. I can do those things on my own."

My YouTube shorts feed is being disrupted by slop AI videos, mostly of suburban moms being attacked by leopards and lions on their front porch while their toddlers cry, and then the family dog chases the tiger away

I remember sesame seeds and what looked like creme fraiche, but I'm sure there was a lot of other stuff in there. They were all grilled. Amazing dish!

I think there have been two separate, but both valuable and completely compatible insights posted today:
1. This one, that conservatives used to have guardrails
2. That conservatives have always been racist shitheads

What has changed isn’t conservative belief, it’s conservative behavior.
ryanlcooper.com
as conservatives, the party of selfish shitheads, they were indeed shitheads, often racist to boot. but the GOP used to have some taboos. "I love Hitler" would have been FAR over the line even for Dixiecrats bsky.app/profile/bill...

There is a double game at play tho among the people saying what marcotte is.

Its true not "every" Republican was like this but what's also true is.... A whole lot of them have been!

They were in the reagan and GWB coalition too.

The "not everyone" crowd needs to accept that "a lot" of them were
