I guess the most depressing part is we have a whole political class that is pro-status quo and advocates for existing home owners peddling these myths. We have whole inner city neighbourhoods that have >half of the population they had when they were built and we let these anti-dev arguments slide.
i.e. more desirable neighbourhoods for those very reasons.
I think it would be good if the reporter allows an interviewee to throw in their 2 cents about how row houses depress their home values, they'd at least spend some time providing the necessary data to back it up (no, not one offs)
While I’m against the insane levels of sprawl development in this town, I gotta give it up to the developer for this truly bizarre and hilarious promotional spot youtu.be/wACBOeYxnxk
Frankly I’d love a 3+1 WITHOUT a backyard but because I have kids a SDH (or semi) is kinda it for options, ie enjoy the suburbs. Some developers are getting the msg.
I don’t think I’m alone, just look at most new SDHs: no one spends any time in the yard and they just build a big deck, no lawn.
Those foldable panels have come a long way, I used one in Africa this summer and was pleasantly surprised, though I was awfully close to the equator, so sun intensity was insane
Can I tell you how indispensable @sprawlcalgary.bsky.social has been in its coverage of the Calgary election. Whether you are following it closely or not. Videos of numerous ward and mayoral forums. And there most valuable service, a campaign primer. www.sprawlcalgary.com/calgary-elec...
It really is the part of the Farkas platform I find so baffling. Unless you have a plan (and ideally some money) to build actual affordable housing (we should!), this criticism is silly.
After griping to the kids about councillors going on about the city not having any money and yet still managing to re-pave half the roads every year, this re-pave of the bike path coming into Stanley Park from the south is very welcome! #yycbike
