Goal reached! This project will go ahead. You can still pledge, and there's some 'reward' options to get a producer credit on an episode, or sponsor an episode (and have your ad featured) available

A little more about the planned podcast project. We're just about over the line to meet the goal now; 165 more people pledging $5 and we'll be there

Relatedly, was reading Naomi Beinart's piece in the Guardian this morning, & thinking about how (increasingly) true it must be for NZ too. | As boys shift to the right, we are seeing the rise of the ‘new chill girl’ www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

It's also weird how at that time it was largely because of the internet they I knew there was a bigger world out there, one where men didn't have to fit in the tiny book I felt people were trying to force me into. Now of course, the Internet is a big part of the problem

I went to a school that (25 years ago) was a breeding ground for toxic masculinity, but it felt like it was a relic of the past, something out of an old British boarding school novel, I knew the world outside was changing and I couldn't wait to leave. Now it feels like the world is going backwards

Also, the bus is delayed

To be fair there are several great, high frequency bus routes in this city, this just isn't one of them
byroncclark.bsky.social
Crossing a six lane road full of mostly single occupant cars to catch a bus that only goes once an hour so will soon standing room only, and thinking "well, I guess we just keep voting for this"

Ah you're right, didn't realise I'd landed on the simple English version

The vast majority of links on this list are red (no article) or the articles are stubs. I wonder if that reflects the age of Wikipedia editors, the lack of notability of these shows, or a bit of both

A survey, not a scientific poll

Groundswell are pretty open about their aim to influence industry bodies and politicians in favour of quitting the Paris Climate Accords

Even just a pilot based on this one and I'd be chuffed
a man beside a large spinning wheel labeled “RISK IT ALL” in the center. The wheel is divided into colored segments with outcomes such as “DEATH,” “NEAR MISS,” “MINOR CRASH,” “MAJOR CRASH,” and “MIRACLE.” The background features trees and a cloudy sky, creating a dark, ominous atmosphere.

Pretty much.

So we don't care about climate change. Farmers can sit back and continue to pollute while being paid well for their milk and meat.

New Zealand should make a horror anthology series where each episode is based on a frightening TV PSA commercial from the 90s. So much content to mine

Is that a good price for crap?
Alt text: A market stall selling vinyl records displayed in plastic crates. One crate is labeled “50c Crap” and another “$1 – All Styles.” A sign below reads “RECORD MAN – Records Bought & Sold – Here at Riccarton Market since day one,” along with a phone number. The surrounding area shows other market stalls and shoppers.

Agreed, I think it's having something of a renaissance. If seasons 12-29 didn't exist and seasons 30 on were a reboot putting the characters in the 2020s, fans would be excited about it. Not as good as the golden age, but very enjoyable
byroncclark.bsky.social
Because the characters don't age, Homer and Marge are millennials now. A recent episode sees Lisa wearing Marge's old clothes and becoming popular because Y2K fashion is very in right now

The project won't go ahead unless the goal is reached, which is why I'm using PledgeMe rather than Ko-fi (Ko-fi processes the payment straight away) so maybe hold off until it looks like the goal will be met, it goes until the end of the month

Also 421 people voted for the openly white supremacist mayoral candidate who's policy was executing traitors to the nation. A small percentage of the population (somewhere around ~1%) but a worrying number of people
