Just Minnesota shit and pet photos. Saint Paul is the best twin. In the new world, I'm going to read more books and travel to places that don't hate people for being themselves. Sober. Married. New Dad.

I'm in.

Not saying it's good. But that's a sound investment in this new world.
burnsiemn.bsky.social
Didn't mean to go around and around.

Appreciate your perspective and hope we can pull out of this tailspin we're all in. Basically in any way possible.

Have a good day.

Politicians in office forget, all the time, that the privilege of democracy is in the service to the electorate-the community-the country

The privilege is not voting for them or supporting them

It's okay to make them uncomfortable-voters don't owe anything
They owe us their service
By their choice
burnsiemn.bsky.social
I agree.

But I'll say our barometer on "people who can win" may just be broken a little.

I'm only talking in general, and it's likey true in this race that Governor Mills is that candidate.

But good candidates lose all the time. So do "safe" candidates and incumbents.

What is about this conversation that makes you such a piece of shit troll?

Did someone in your life recently tell you to hang it up?

Man. Fuck you.
burnsiemn.bsky.social
I apologize for continuing to include you on the thread.

I'm going to go to work now-housing folks who can't find housing because the current crop of political leaders in this country don't give a shit by and large about a crisis they and the generations before us had a direct hand in creating.
burnsiemn.bsky.social
I don't get mad at people who disagree with me their own opinions-it's not that difficult.

Being an elected official in America is a not a "right" it is a privilege and I don't believe experience-especially of the generation that has ushered in this verson of America-is a benefit to me as a voter
burnsiemn.bsky.social
There are 100 Senators, 435 members of the House.

And it should be our best, collectively. If our "best" are regularly dying in office, not relating to issues that generations decades behind them are facing (or even trying to), and not leaving when they KNOW it. That's a problem for democracy.
burnsiemn.bsky.social
I'll own that. And I'll apologize for using that word.

In this case. Gov Mills-very qualified and capable-will they continue to be at 82?

However, never being honest about how age effects an elected's capacity in office or ability to energize voters is to our detriment

We have many examples
burnsiemn.bsky.social
If I was a Maine voter?

The geriatric. It's a binary choice and an easy one.

But we are all reaping what we've sown by not being willing to cultivate and support younger political leaders.
burnsiemn.bsky.social
We're talking about elected officials in a democracy.

Not talking about putting older folks out to sea.

Why not retire, enjoy hobbies, hang with your family.

Also....seriously? Attacking me personally-as a father-that's something a child would do. Grow up.
burnsiemn.bsky.social
Ha.

What a perfectly amazing way for this to wrap up.
burnsiemn.bsky.social
I'm 41. With plenty.

This person just doesn't like what I have to say and that's their right.

I said basically it's hard to relate to the experiences of a generation 50 years in the behind yours.

And they're proving my point.
burnsiemn.bsky.social
That's not what I said. Experiences are different.

It's not hard to understand.
burnsiemn.bsky.social
What an old person way to disregard someone else's completely valid argument.

Look around and tell me that the older generation(s) in America by and large didn't screw this experiment up and tell me again why I or anyone else should trust them further
burnsiemn.bsky.social
Correct. But I've met many electeds who are. And we have some pretty good examples of it now, don't we?

Have you had a conversation with someone in theor 70s who doesn't have any idea who the housing market is like these days?

Our generational experiences are drastically different.
burnsiemn.bsky.social
People in their 70s & 80s, even the great ones still 90% mentally, are literally 50 years disconnected from the experiences of the majority of people they are trying to represent.

I'm not stopping anyone. Conversation is not stopping Mills or anyone else from running-only the voters can do that.
burnsiemn.bsky.social
Age doesn't seem to be a problem for voters who are voting.

Seems to be an issue for citizens that see a generation of leadership with little to no stake in their own futures.
burnsiemn.bsky.social
I didn't obsess with his age at all. Supported him fully for a term he would have likely died during or had to resign from if we're being honest.

However, refusing to have the conversation that our country is led by people who have no stake in our future is actually why we have a facism problem.
burnsiemn.bsky.social
That's called a strawman.
I'm not saying elect the evil person.
I'm not saying kill the elders. I'm saying let the next generation lead.

It's not ageism to be honest that entrenched 70-80 year old electeds don't have the experiences any longer to appropriately represent future generations.
burnsiemn.bsky.social
For sure on not being on me. And if we're going case by case choose the geriatric....but it's a sad choice for Maine and for the country.

Hope she wins. 🤷‍♂️
burnsiemn.bsky.social
Thanks grace! I'll look into it for sure.
burnsiemn.bsky.social
No idea about the other guy-yet-and I trust you specifically on that. But is there not a better option than a 77 y/o?

83! At the end of term. That's not unheard obviously but come on.
burnsiemn.bsky.social
Folks of a certain age should be enjoying life not controlling us

77 y/o shouldn't be running for office from any party

Retire

Your legacy will eventually be you were too old to serve competently
Voters are the only ones that can stop a bunch of disconnected geriatrics from destroying our country
