Do ants feel empathy at all? What about creatures that demonstrate empathy, like dogs? Pretty sure dogs have empathy for us…???

Sure, but that’s a projection. The real question is do we have empathy for that which is superhuman? Like, ignoring how or why we encounter it.

Of course. But that doesn’t necessitate a lack of empathy. Ostensibly between creatures that can communicate they could bestow some aspects of it.

I don’t think it could be argued we don’t try to please god! There are substantial portions of human history dedicated to it!

We almost always imagine ourselves domesticated to the whims of an invisible and chaotic master.

If intelligence demands empathy, we’re so far from intelligent machines…

I think we anthropomorphize anything in an attempt to build empathy. The irony is of course god is unknowably superhuman.

But if we use animals as a model, a decent example might be cats thinking people are just really weird other cats that don’t know how to behave.

And sometimes they’re right.
