The plot isn’t exactly original but the practical effects are quite good & it’s got that absurd entertainment factor present in a lot of Italian rip offs. I wonder if the director had a bet on how many pointless racketball sequences he could squeeze into 90 minutes. Dumb fun.

Now Watching: Primal Rage

A reporter attacked by a monkey being experimented on by a Florida university unwittingly unleashes a virus that causes violent rage on the unsuspecting school.
The plot feels straight out of a soap opera & lead Mark Soper is chewing as much scenery as he possibly can. If you feel like your Thanksgiving dinners are psychotic at least they probably don’t end with a family gun battle while threatening a baby. That’s not cranberry sauce!

On Night Flight Plus
Now Watching: Blood Rage

A twin wrongly institutionalized for the murder his brother committed escapes after ten years causing his evil sibling to go on another bloody rampage. While I’m always sad to say goodbye to Halloween that doesn’t mean the violent massacres need come to an end.
You finally went to Rocky!!!
A who’s who of indie horror filmmaking are aboard, including a posthumous role for beloved director Maddie Deering. It’s so fun.

Now Watching: Ssssstoner Snake

Friends going to a Halloween party run afoul of an intergalactic criminal snake that has crash landed on and driven into a homicidal frenzy by pot smoke. Wonderfully cheesy, this feels very much like the low budget late night horror schlock that inspired it.
I really liked Gladys as a villain when I first saw this but I’m starting to feel like she’s on the short list of truly awful all time baddies. Great fucking stuff.

On HBO Max
Paranoid and deeply unsettling, I went from enjoying this movie to thinking it’s a modern masterpiece with a strong allegorical undertones for addiction and the toxicities of capitalism.
Now Watching: Weapons

A community is left reeling after all but one child from a single classroom disappear on the same night.
When I was a film programmer, I only booked one movie in the Halloween series and Michael Myers isn’t an involved in that plot. It’s even got a great whammy ending. One of my favorite Halloween movies of all time.

On Peacock
Now Watching: Halloween III: Season Of The Witch

A doctor uncovers a conspiracy to use Halloween masks to kill children. An all time Halloween classic, the story is wonderfully depraved and and wholly original.
He has such good chemistry with Julie Bowen and all his usual friends make appearances. Fun for the whole family.

On Netflix
Now Watching: Hubie Halloween

A good natured scaredy-cat spends every Halloween keeping the festivities in Salem Massachusetts safe for his fellow town folk. Big hearted and silly, this is for sure my favorite later Sandler comedy.
I’ve been following it for ages thru production. As fun as I’d hoped it would be based on the concept
The monsters are pretty inspired for how goofy they are. This was a lot of fun.

Now Watching: Haunted House Of Pancakes

On Halloween the food at a diner becomes possessed and looks for revenge against its patrons. Incredibly silly, this obviously isn’t taking itself very seriously.
Slow, boring and nearly unwatchable, I can see why I had never heard anything about this movie. Even with a nearly ten minute Linnea Quigley shower scene I had trouble concentrating on the film. Yikes.

Now Watching: Jack-O

Teenagers vandalizing graves on Halloween accidentally free an evil being looking for revenge. Holy shit was this a turd.
Very paranoid and a good use of the idea, this toys with the audience until the very end. Janet Blair is particularly good as the witchy wife. Pretty fun.

Now Watching: Burn Witch Burn

A college professor skeptical of his wife’s belief in magic learns there may more to his successes in her practice in witchcraft.
It just never really comes together for me. Since this has a grip of sequels I must be in the minority. Not bad but it felt like this could have been more.

Now Watching: Hell House LLC

A documentary crew investigating a tragedy at a haunted house attraction find that supernatural elements might be at play. I’ll give it credit for being different and it certainly has some great moments.
It also casts a corporation as the villain which always seems like the problem causers in real life. The punchline at the end is also really funny. It’s from the same team as Turbo Kid and Summer Of 84 & it’s another high quality output.
