Ok so over on Instagram I used to track my reading and always had nice chats with people about books so I’m going to move that over here now that I’ve deleted my Insta. (I’m also on StoryGraph as mittenstrings.)

I try to read 100 books a year. I fail as often as I succeed.

Interior Health's position that general surgeons can take the c-section load in Kamloops for the foreseeable future makes me glad to have yeeted my fallopian tubes, Jesus Christ.

The post-surgical complications are going to be wild.

This thread of a real life human listening to my podcast is keeping me going today! ❤️

If you care about education and care and maybe doing classroom stuff better (and disobedience, we’re big fans) you might like Community of Praxis.

spotify.link/RyanALImuXb Another great episode from @brennacgray.bsky.social. This one really drives it home. So many issues we see in our own district where children are asked to comply and conform instead of teachers striving to inspire learning. It's about K-12 and PSE.

i'm not going to chide or scold anyone for only now leaving twitter. your private, unspoken acknowledgment that i'm your intellectual and moral superior is all i need

I am not surprised that he’s a bad dad but his willingness to buy billboards attesting to the fact always gets me.

By my count this is every high risk OB in the city — incredible, competent professionals — saying enough is enough.
brennacgray.bsky.social
Sometimes people think of these professionals in the abstract but their work has no doubt saved my life.

The doctors listed here performed my potentially septic D&C, my difficult-to-schedule HSG procedure, my emergency fetal monitoring, and my high risk C-section. Their work is critical to the lives of folks seeking reproductive care and we are in trouble that it has come to this.

Please be conscious if you protest this weekend that there are feds at the protest. They look like you and they sound like you, not like Steve Buscemi in that one clip with the skateboard. Thinking you can spot them is self delusion. Nobody you haven’t met needs to know your last name.

Oh wow this is such a good way of getting at the inherent incongruity, Liz — thanks for expressing it this way. It’s so baffling. But then there’s a political ideology that does not value coherence…

I am genuinely excited about this. Their Christmas album is a favourite around here.

I want everyone to be clear that this is the equivalent of saying a little prayer.

Seeing people nonchalantly post stuff like makes me feel like I'm going crazy honestly.
A post from an academic on blue sky that says: "I'm learning about "prompt engineering" when asking LLMs to extract data. I now add this to all instructions:

Style
Be concise, analytic, and specific (cite page/figure if provided). If essential info is missing, keep going but flag Unclear and exact data needed. Never invent data.

I gotta do the Coquihalla on a cannonball run with the baby on Tuesday, gonna need everyone to pray for dry.

Oh I understand, I am just more sympathetic to dumbasses since becoming one
brennacgray.bsky.social
Ok but in fairness I couldn’t find anything I needed at the grocery store yesterday because I’ve been doing delivery since the baby was born and they reorganized the store on me (they didn’t, my brain just broke).

Mamdani talking lucidly and passionately about trans rights and history in a video that should frankly shame every politician who has hemmed and hawed and triangulated and said, "Well, but sports..." It's not that hard to tell the truth and stand for what's right. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEvV...

My favourite thing about this project has been learning about education from folks in the trenches of K-12. Those of us working in higher ed have much to take on board! And any time I get to talk to @edifiedlistener.bsky.social is a good day. I hope you all enjoy Episode 2.

In this episode of Community of Praxis Brenna interviews Sherri Spelic about her book Care at the Core and what reciprocal learning can happen between post-secondary and K-12 educators. @brennacgray.bsky.social @edifiedlistener.bsky.social

Today on HKHS: @brennacgray.bsky.social and @joelipsett.bsky.social kick off scary season with DARK HARVEST.

The book isn't exactly YA, but it mostly works as a Vietnam war allegory.

The film has elements of camp and great practical FX, though its incredibly grim ending doesn't entirely satisfy.
