The face of orange juice hated the fruits so they canned her.

#OtD 14 Oct 1977 anti-gay crusader Anita Bryant was "pied" by Thom Higgins, a gay rights activist. She then began praying and burst into tears. Following a boycott, she lost her job as brand ambassador for Florida orange juice. More LGBT+ history here: workingclasshistory.com/tag/lgbtq/

I mean, most times I travel I don't really care (I usually asked work to put me in boring sheratons because they have solid bedding but are otherwise forgettable, so I sleep better.)

Occasionally though I've had high stress trips where I *really* don't have the battery for 'boutique hotel shit'

That hotel cost me zero dollars, to be fair, ha.

That's just some examples. Would your average Sheraton meet those needs? Sure. Sometimes a nice budget hotel does, too.

But there's a level of jank that can turn infuriating with your average 3 star hotel, be it long elevator lines, tired furniture, or a total lack of decent coffee.

Andaz, Tokyo - I'm paying to be elevated above other tourists, and quiet in an otherwise overstimulating and sometimes confining city. Also paying a lot for god-tier design.

Wynn, Las Vegas - I'm paying for taste, which is a rarity in LV. Everything from the room decor to the coffee they serve at their diner (a big theme with me, ha) is done with care. Walking back through a garden instead of tacky retail sets the tone.

The Wythe, Brooklyn - For me the luxury is the hotel's attention to detail and the fact that what they *do* they do well. For me if I order a pot of coffee and a pastry to my room while working in the morning they're as good - if not better - than I get at home.

Depends on the hotel, but usually if I'm paying for a luxury hotel, I want everything to go *right.* That means different things in different locales, but I'll elaborate:

As someone who has spent much of his life in Pigeon Forge I actually went for the first time last year.

It’s even more amazing when you consider it’s actually good because everything down there is a quick-bake tourist trap.
